Striped bass fishing was pretty good all week, with most of the fish still 25 pounds or better, but it got a little more difficult on the weekend with some charters only bringing back a couple of fish. On most days, the fishing had been in one place and for a very short time, with ‘chutes, big tubes and eels all working. But you had to fish fast.

A big deal was made of the reduction in bag limit from two bass to one, but except for the first two weeks when the bass first arrived, the old bag limit wouldn’t have applied anyway, since catching a dozen fish per trip hasn’t been very common.

Bottom fishing also got a little difficult over the weekend, but that was because of the breeze, and with light winds it will probably be back to normal.

Offshore the tuna fishing, even out at the Edge, hasn’t really taken hold yet, but mako fishing is doing better than usual for this time of the year, with some big fish around, like the 450 pounder caught early in the week on the CAPTAIN KEITH.
