Huge 242-pound bluefin taken off Oceanside that ate a Popper, using a PENN Fathom FTH30LD2 filled with 80-pound Berkley Pro-Spec Braid.

Before last weekend i thought that would be near impossible, but seeing first hand how much ass my 25nld2 kicked a 75lbers ass, I'm a believer. These reels are an amazing value.

Does anyone have first hand experience filling a 25nld2 with either 50 or 65lb braid? If so how much did it hold and what brand did you use. I recently purchased one and have heard different things on how much it holds. Thx

The Penn Fathoms are LEGIT. Compare the specs vs price and put one in your hand to see how it feels. Really really nice reels. BTW the dude in this picture hammers fish all day pretty much every day and if he stands by them then I certainly due. Proofs in the pudding!!!

I put 450 yards of 50 lb braid. Left room for top shot.

    CONGRATS ON THE WHOPPER!!!!
I am a believer on the the new penn fathom 2 speeds!!!!!

    i bought a 40 ld 2 for the bluefin
couldn't get the bluefin to go unfortunately
but hooked a 6' mako for 5 mins before getting bitten off
i loved how the reel performed and just when i was has having a little trouble
i dropped that bad boy into the 2nd gear and turned the shark and was able to wind like crazy super stoked on this reel
