Do hours upon hours of UV light break down the mono on the reel while trolling? If so do you have a regular schedule to replace the line? Thinking about the effects of UV on mono while trolling or live baiting for tuna. Thanks Buzz
Tournament guys change their line every DAY...
The reels I fish regularly get new mono every year.
The stuff I only use a couple times a year and keep in the garage I'll inspect and probably only change every 2-3 years.
My casting and spinning reels get new line 2-3 times a year depending on use, mostly because of stress and nicks not UV exposure.
Do a test on the line to see what it breaks at on a new spool and what's on your reel. I've seen really old line look fine but break at half the rating.
(when testing use the same knot you would tie when fishing it)
