I've never heard of mola mola being eaten. Is this because they taste like crap or is it another case of assumed crap, like bonito and barracuda?

Are there regs against taking mola molas?

I've never taken one, but was wondering about that.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_sunfish

The flesh of the ocean sunfish is considered a delicacy in some regions, the largest markets being Taiwan and Japan. All parts of the sunfish are used in cuisine, from the fins to the internal organs.[16] Some parts of the fish are used in some areas of traditional medicine.[12] If the body does contain toxins, then the marketing and sale of ocean sunfish is forbidden in theEuropean Union according to Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council.[3]barf

Yes Bad Dog considered Molas Pelagic Lobster because the jelly or something in its bung hole tasted just like a lobster, or so he said.

There is a piece of meat behind and below the side fin that is very good. When I was a kid they love it when one was brought into the fish market. It never got to a customer, it was usually eaten for Sunday dinner.

My wife hooked an estimated 400 lb mola while fly lining an anchovie for albacore. Damn thing jumped. Looked like a moon rising from the water. Had a picture of it jumping.

Evidently Sea Lions like Mola. Came upon this fat bastid eating the belly of a Mola at the Islands this past Sunday.
