    Howzit Gang,

Got to Sand Island about 4:30 on Saturday. Setup and hit the water by 5:00. 2500 RPM's out to BO. Get to the buoy about 6:15, already 5 boats drifting / jigging for aku.

First pass get a knock down from right rigger. Turns out it was a tangle from the Penn 50 on the short corner. Somehow it had slipped down into free spool and was down to bare metal! My partner got his warm up by reeling in 1/2 mile of line.

Get everything situated, and second pass on buoy the stinger comes down and see a marlin going crazy back there. Clear the lines and get away from the buoy. Half hour later 150lb. marlin on ice. Aurite no white wash. It hit a 9" Tsutomo fish head straight runner. Thanks Garrett.

Set back up and decide to run between the 1000 and 1500 down towards the pinnacle. Hour later get a double Otaru hit in the blind. Lose the first right at the boat trying to yank him over the transom (my bad). Get the second one on ice. They hit a 5" futa pencil and 7" Morris Kamaboku. Thanks Nick; the tuna like that kamaboku.

About an hour later get an 18 lb. mahi in the box. Nothing the rest of the day. The pinnacle was DEAD. Back at the barn around 6:00.

All in all we were stoked. Changing the leg oil seems to have increased our hit ratio (still gotta get in there and replace the seals).

    Aloha,
    JD

    Howzit JD,
Congrats on the nice Marlin, Otaru and Mahi! You seemed to have gone to the right place at the right time and "hanapa'a"! Thanks for the report.....btw, how was the water? I would be overjoyed with a catch like that right now! Hope I find something out there the next time I can get out.

    Thanks Majestic.

    Hey Russ,

Thanks. We were stoked. Water was fairly crispy (18-20 knots winds 5-6 foot seas). Full Grundens. Hopefully you can get out there soon.

    JD and crew,
Good goin' on a long fruitfull day of fishing. I've pulled a hook or 2 on those footballs trying to toss em on the deck. Watch out after you replace the seals, the fish may just start jumpin in the boat.

Thanks Ben. Before I changed the leg oil I went 40 hours on the water without one fish hitting the deck. Been meaning to ask you what a BAMF is? My uncle was a marine and used to tell me they called the wahine marines BAM's for Broad Ass Marines; any correlation?

    "Well done JD, solid catch!!"

    Thanks Mike

Thanks Pat. The Otaru we did land was super ono...more worse I missed the 2nd. Never replaced seals before...much work involved?

    Nice job, JD and crew!

Interesting coincidence: That's exactly what we caught on July 4. One marlin, one mahi and one otaru.

    JD,
Not sure what leg you have; did one once a few years ago on an Merc Alpha leg, was OK, just needed some tools.

Good Luck when you get to it.
