Head out of Ko’olina at 5:45 with the boys hoping to find the Ahi we had heard were coming up. On the last day of a 3 day weekend, we also know things might be pretty fished out. Decide to go in the direction of where BO is supposed to be and work down the 1000 toward the pinnacle. It was a desert with not much life to speak of until we get to the Pinnacle. We find a few other boats working the area and a decent bird pile. We see another boat hook up an Ahi and that keeps us in the area for another hour with no luck for us. We decide to head toward Ka‘ena to see what the action is like there and run into quite a large bird pile and a number of other boats. We see 2 more folks get lucky and circle ourselves for another hour before deciding to head in for a run along the ledge in the hope of an ono or two. Instead, we find another bird pile on the 700 and the long rigger comes down hard and the line starts peeling off the 80. First thought is Ahi, but once we see the splashing and a marlin on the run we realize we got the wrong species.

Nice solid fight from the marling for about 25 minutes before we boat her. Gut and gill and we decide to make the run back in to the harbor. Along the way we run into that ono we were looking for which makes selling the marlin an even easier decision. Nice day on the water overall.

Kepa and the boys,
Congrats on a good day, may not have been the desired species, but marlin and ono ease the pain for sure. Hopefully this season turns it up and stays in high gear for awhile...

Cheers
Pat
