Started at the 371.... dead. Hit a few paddys on the way to the 302. Full of bait, but nothing more. Ended up with one bluefin tuna around 20 pounds. Ran out of bait by the time I really found them so couldn't chunk like i needed. Right after pulling in the bluefin tuna I look down and this beast is right beside my boat. Pretty massive. Blunt head. White tips on fins. No pattern on the shark. Seemed to big for an oceanic whitetip, but I could be wrong. Close to 15ft. Any ideas????

Are those screen shots from a video? It's hard to see much because of the distortion looking down in the water. Is it possible to post the video on Youtube? Personally I've never heard of an oceanic white tip seen in so Cal but it looks like one. Can't tell from the pics but was the dorsal tipped white as well? Post video let's see if we can confirm, could be very cool to make a firm ID.

Very distorted but not oceanic white tip in my opinion . That's my favorite species . They have a very large wingspan and the nose isn't what I would call blunt . They can get big but 15 feet seems as little much of a stretch . More white as well . WTF is it ? The elusive MEGAMOUTH !!!

Thats a megamouth..google the images and they have the white tip pectorals once in a lifetime sighting
It’s more like a once in a thousand lifetimes sighting. Not sure how right the Wikipedia is but it says they have only been observed in the wild 99 times as of March 2018. That includes dead ones washing up onshore.

I was thinking whale shark - but a megamouth would be insane.

Hopefully a shark person can chime in.

I was going to say Basking Shark but they don't have those white tips on the fins.

Megamouths absolutely do.

Look at the body shape also and man it matches pretty damn close.

It's almost unthinkable insane but I do believe you saw a Megamouth shark.
