Fished the Make A Wish yesterday. Most of the fleet seem to be heading down towards the Lower 500. We decided to stay away and fish the 1010 working our way east. The wind and waves were brutal on the outside. Zig zag right thru the trench but nothing on the troll. Saw the Grande working a huge paddie with a few hook ups. Started to move east towards the Double 220 and found 2 paddies close together on the east side of the 220. Fished them both for five Yellows and a Dodo. BoilerMaker hooked up on this nice Bluefin towards the end of the day on the paddie. We took 2nd place for the Small Boat division and Team Total.

We missed the tourney this year due to Cooter's been down and out with a concussion from being T-boned in an auto accident. :(

    Luckiest Fish Ever !

Here's the scenario: Were trolling for 7 hours getting our asses handed to us (like everyone else), No BFT caught north of the lower 500,our scoop of bait is 1/2 to 3/4 dead, and we only found one other paddie and the Grande was on it (BTW they caught 51 yt that day). Finally after being demoralized all day we find these 2 paddies right on top of the D220's. Catch rats right off the bat but the drift is somewhere around 1.5 to 2 knots !! So our gear kept getting tangled up and knotted and knick and cut.... well you get the idea. So I'm using my 20# and the line is fucked up. We have about a 1/2 dozen 3/4 to 7/8 dead bait. Had to butt hook everything to get it to swim. Were resigned to the fact were only going to to weigh in 5 pound yellows for the tournament. We make the plan to go to the big paddie one last time and chum the shit out of it.

I thought to myself....... "since this was going to be the last drift and were going to chum the shit out of them I'll put up my kinked up,knotted up, same leader and hook, 20# stick and grab my lucky 25# Cal Star/ Trinny 30 setup (same one I caught the 1st Place fish on last year) just in case". Good thing I did ! I grab one of the last 7/8 dead baits, butt hook him, and cast off to the side of the paddie. Soon as the bait hit the water about 15 feet off the stern I see the flash and get the line running off the reel. Thinking it's another rat I'm only haphazardly holding the rod and going to play with him for a while. OOPS !!!! "OH SHIT FRANK!!!I THINK I HAVE A TUNA!!!!" Sure enough after 20 minutes I land the luckiest 22# BFT ever.

    2nd Place Small Boat Prize was a Avet Pro-EX 30 2 Speed on a Super Seeker 6455XH 5 and a 1/2 foot rod.

    Avet Pro EX 2 Speed.jpg

I'll be taking it out on my 1.5 day aboard the Chief leaving this Tuesday (against Max's advice ). Looks like all their catching is rat YT. I'll show them how lucky I am;).

Thanks Frank! Good times as always. Sorry for keeping you out so long

    Jerry
