I commercially rod and reel threshers and only drag and snag. I've killed a many of 30-40 pounders bc they sell for the same price. Anyone wanna come tell me I'm doing something wrong? I'll even keep one to eat for me and my whole family bc I don't make a killing in work. Why didn't you release that bull dorado you dbag? I'm sure that thing is a trophy and many wouldve like to have caught it too. I bet everyone on here saying something abou releasing Marlin has congratulated another at some point for killing a 50-70 pound seabass in April and May. Just a word of advice, all fish have their worth, all fish fight, and all fish can make another happy if it is released. Just bc someone told you when you were a child of this majestically beautiful creature that tail walks into the sunset on our ocean should always be released. Once again probably the same people who say mackeral and bonito are absolutely shit without trying either one once

Great catch, thank you for sharing, I'm sure your family enjoyed it.

How many here have actually tried marlin???
    Sashimi, baked, fried, smoked???
I bet most have not, just like Bonita, mackerel, and so many others on a whole that get poo pooed or have some otter like emotional attachment.
Oh and do you really believe that marlin you just fought for two hours, and spent little time reviving did not die a wasteful death?
Keep telling yourself it's free and living a great life after you just beat the snot out it.
Good fight, live to fight enother day...
What ever helps you sleep at night.
Educating and preserving our fish stocks is important to our fishy so I commend the conversation.
Let's just leave the misguided emotional crap to the restrictionists.

Don't ever kill a Rooster and a Blue Marlin in the same day.
Or you will die in your sleep.

    137.png
The Marlin wounded the Rooster fish. I hooked the Marlin and it died ten minutes into the fight.
I ate it's liver with rice and pitcher of beer. Then I went out for the evening bite. 073.png rooster.png

I had smoked marlin in Barbados once, it must have been frozen previously, cause it was pretty dried out and flavorless.

What an amazing amount of BS from a bunch of guys that wish they could catch a marlin. If you don't get them in quickly, they die. If you are such a purist, don't fish for them. If you do, back down on the fish and bust him off when you hit the leader. Then you can be all cool and have a released fish. If you don't get them in less that 10 minutes, they are shark food. By the way, they are darn good smoked and depending on the fish, they make pretty good steaks. I have been catching and killing one a year for around 40 years. I am figuring that there are a couple folks that don't like like bacon or barbecue. Those pointy nose guys are fun to catch. If I hurt them bad, I kill them and eat them.

Fisherman bashing a fellow fisherman for killing a legal fish?? Opinions are like bellybuttons, everyone has one and some folks insist you see what they got going on in theirs. There are some gems in this tread but mostly a lot of lint and a few ticks.
