Finally got some time and weather window to put in my first tuna trip. Me and Fishinguy got out on his sweet 23 parker.
Went all the way down chasing internet Yellows at the upper finger and ended up below the 425. Hooked our first fish at 1pm after almost giving up with go home with the stripe on our back.
Chased the birds all day for 1 55# BFT, 4 yellows, and 4 big bonito.
Could got our limit of BFT except we decided to hook a BFT over 100 # on 40lb mono and iron. fought the fish for over 1.5hr, brought 3 times to color only to loose after it shook the hook all this while watching the National geographic tuna feeding right behind the boat.

Don't even bother the 30lbs, they will chew right thru the leader.

    Awesome report with good info!

Is it bad that I'm mostly impressed by the size of the huge bones?

Timely report, I'm heading down tomorrow! All fish on the finger, or did you travel west for the bft?
    Thanks,
    Jim

World record bonito is 41" and 25 pounds. That fat one looks close. Great job.

Actually the world record pacific bonito is only 21.5 lbs. And the fat one definitely looks close.

Well Done! Huge Bonito. Sorry for your loss but may I suggest it was probably a 250# BFT that got away?
