With how slow the tuna fishing has been, what better way to make it great again then getting together 7 of the fishiest fools this side of the Mississippi....

Rewind to the 2015 Billy Nik Awards Ceremony where a few adult beverages were being shared amongst friends (specifically Josh (Silver Slayer), Todd (Shortround), and Dave (Happy Daze)) and an agreement was made to enter one particular raffle item and to enter it with full force and lots of greenbacks....a tuna trip with Patrick Walker aboard Tailwalker Charters. A few drinks and raffle items later, the trip was up and the number was read.......the winner stood up....and it was none other than JOSH (aka Silver Slayer)! A top notch crew was assembled and the date was set...August 29th, 2016....

    The crew consisted of....
    Josh - Silver Slayer
    Dave - Happy Daze
    Todd - Shortround
    Patrick - Tailwalker
    Dave - MontanaDave
    Steve - Elkfins
    and Yours Truly

It didn't take long to get the shenanigans started....

Step #1 of making tuna fishing great again is to take on as much premo bait as the tank will hold!

And we were off, cruising down the Ilwaco channel at 35 knots in gray light, bumping to DRE - KEEP THEIR HEADS RINGING and a little R KELLY - BUMP n GRIND (just for Shortround). Needless to say, the mood was set. We headed offshore, with high anticipation that the fish would cooperate and we would get the chance to whack n stack with great company.

We stopped short of our destination about 8 miles. The troll rods were in and not 5 minutes later, the sweet, sweet, yell of "JUMPERS" rang through the air and Dave and I were standing at the bait tank, appearing out of nowhere....ok so maybe we took up residency at the tank. HAHA. The baits were in...and so were the RESULTS! One after the other Dave and I yell "HOOKED UP!!!". More baits went in and a more baits were consumed. We threw 8 on the deck before the bite ended and started the troll. I decided to put out the swimbait in the shotgun position. Before the last troll rod was set, the very swimbait I had put in seconds earlier was bit. HOOKED UP!!!! And the MAYHEM began...

It became obvious rather quickly that there were more tuna in the school than we could load into the boat so we called in a friend:

The bite was so good, that even the Captain was able to grab a Thrasher rod and jump in on the fun..

Around 9:30AM, the first "we're plugged" call came, which we all promptly ignored and kept going! HAHAHA

And at 10:12AM, the official "were plugged!!!!" was given, rods were racked, and the clean up began. We had drifted 1.25nm and the fish stayed with us the entire way!

We pointed the bow east and checked the DTW....only 32nm from port!

On the way in, Happy Daze continued to get an education in OG rap, having a particular taste for Cypress Hill. LOL

We hit the dock to offload and we looked at our watches....12:04PM! Can't beat that!

This was our biggest tuna. WA State record no less!

This trip was special, having 7 captains on board that knew how to tuna. Not once was a fish lost due to a tangle. Everyone moved as one, communicating and working together. We watched the Raymarine Es128 TV Screen as the tuna zoom up and down the water column. The Thrasher rods were in full bendo mode as the bite was the best I have seen it all year. And the fish....the fish were in FULL CHEW MODE. We should have broke out the jack poles! It doesn't get any better than a wide open bite amongst good friends, all while land is in sight.

Thanks to Patrick for the great trip and thanks to Josh, Dave, and Todd for the invite. By the way folks, since we only fished a half day, Patrick is letting us get in the other half day next month! BaaaHahaha....

So go hammer the TUNA....the bite is on. Get out there. With the south wind, it should only get better!

TUNA FISHING IS NOW GREAT....ONCE AGAIN! LOL
