Wanna get your guys opinion on what Makaira size for flat fall style fishing bluefin. I’m pairing it up with a UC viper and plan on spooling it all the way with either 100ib or 130ib braid. It’s primarily going to be fished as a flat fall rig but want to use it for bait on longer trips to lupe or alijos. I have a UC centaur with a Tac 25 that is my primary 80ib set up and have caught/landed a 217ib bluefin on the flat fall.

Another vote for the Mak 20. I have both the 30 and 2 20’s and I much prefer the 20. Fill it 100lb hollow to a loop and you can go up or down in line class

I fish the 20 with 130lb, I fish it with a Calstar 775xxh 80-130. It is pretty light and very manageable given the reel class. It demolishes big fish.

Absolutely love my Mak 20/UC Viper combo loaded with 700 yards of 100# JB Metered Braid. Wouldn't even consider using a Mak 30 for a Flat Fall/Nighttime Jig Rod; heavier and wobbly as mentioned above. This fish came on Tomahawk last May, 185#, never took more than 200 yards of line. 19-minutes bite to gaff.

My 30 was a reel without a role. I never want 1000 yards of line -- just too much to contemplate having out there. Max drag of 55 is, to me, a 100 lb reel, not 130. the difference in fishability between my 20 and 30 was quite noticeable. Sold my 30, love my 20's.

the one i paid a spot for
had a mak 20 as my first heavy duty reel. theni thought about a mak 30. most of us try an stay with the same brand. but after reading all the posts decided that there is no way i wanted a really wide reel. so i went 30VISX. it is a hair taller an a hair wider. i do not know how much more line it holds
