    Aloha,

Launched Sat AM out of Honokohau at daybreak for a 1/2 day solo trip. Picked up a 20lb mahi right off the bat outside of "Pine Trees" on a blue and pink pencil popper so it looked like it was going to be a good day. 3 1/2 hours later I was still waiting for my second bite :-(. It finally came on the bend in the 1000f line right off of Kona town. A small stripey hit the pink and blue jet running behind a small bird in the stinger position. I got it to the boat with no fuss at all and it even calmly posed while I got a decent photo. I was able to the hooks out and set it free to fight another day. Wind started blowing pretty hard out of the south and I was right near the barn so I called it a day early.

"Pencil Popper" was a bad choice of words....sorry for the confusion. The mahi was caught trolling with a relatively long/thin lure that has a slant face....kind of a fat pencil that pops when it is trolled :-)
It is a Futa lure that I picked up at POP the last time I was on Oahu but I have no clue what model it is. See photo.

Good job on the fishing, good karma to follow you... That FUTA head is a very good producing lure... IMO, put some wings on that buggah... i troll two of them on the corners, really good working lure...

Nice Mahi and the pic of the stripey was beautiful. Sometimes I think we get so caught up in getting the fish onboard and not losing it we forget to take pictures while the action is on! Then again I guess it depends on the size of the fish and whether or not it is cooperating as well....lol. Congrats!

Good going on the fish. Nice pictures too. It's amazing that you were solo and able to get a photo of the striper. Also, that's a solid looking lure.
