For the past month the fishing outside Mag Bay has been about as good as it gets. This morning I started fishing at daybreak and was headed back in with a limit of wahoo by 9:00. Below is a photo of a typical short days work outside Mag Bay if you fish alone. Take along a friend and the box will be fuller. Take two and you will need a bigger box.
Mag Bay Outfitters is keeping busy putting fly fishermen on marlin, and small yellowfin are available if you don't want to make the long trip from Lopez Mateos out to the Ridge.
Today I fished alongside Lopez capitan Ruben Duran, Juan Cook from San Quintin and John Fitzgerald from San Filipe. They came home happy. I imagine I will see them out there again tomorrow......

Odds look good for fish still being around for the weekend, and also good weather. The first fish of the day yesterday before sun-up was a fat 79 pounder. This one is for steaks......

By far the quickest access to the Ridge outside Mag Bay where you are most likely to find wahoo, as well as marlin, dorado, etc., is through Puerto Lopez Mateos. In Lopez Mateos the man to see is Bob Hoyt at Mag Bay Outfitters:

Ruben is indeed one of the best. As good company as he is a good fisherman. Spend a day on water with him and even if you don't catch fish, which would be a rare occurrence, you are sure to learn something about fishing/boating. Here's a photo back at the house after a day out with Dick and Kim.

It depends on your boat and weather. Like a trip to Catalina...
