Buenavista East Cape Baja Sur Mex
Axel Valdez
Spa Buenavista Fleet
Weather and water conditions are improving daily and we’re seeing more and more boats on the water and lots of activity on the surface. We spent a couple really nice days out with friends this week and had a blast with skipjacks and triggerfish, hooked a couple rock fish while idle and our buddy we were with, John Duvall from Lighthouse Estates brought in a really nice bull Dorado caught on the troll with a cedar plug.

We ran with the porpoise in hopes of tuna (as our friends had caught a few the day before), saw whales, flipping mantas, marlin on the surface and many, many turtles sunning themselves.

Our guests Suzanne Slater from Florida and Vincent from San Diego were super excited as they had never caught Amberjack. On their trip this week aboard the “Nath and Mich” they landed two! One was caught using a Rapala and the other one with live bait while bottom fishing near Cerro Verde.

Family member Axel Valdez and friends had some fun with some Triggerfish and then brought in a nice Cabrilla and enjoyed it for lunch that afternoon at the Resort’s Restaurant El Navegante. Doesn’t get any fresher than that!

We have been introducing you to our fleet; today we’d like you to get to know The “DOTTIE BII”. She is known as one of the best and well-kept charters on all of the East Cape. Friendly, experienced crew; high quality gear; clean, modern and fast…up to 36 knots per hour.

Meet her crew, Captain Vicente Cosio and deck hand Marco Garcia.

Vicente was born in San Antonio BCS Mexico, about 40 miles north of Buena Vista. His fishing career started nearly 30 years ago in La Canica working at the side of Captain Jesus Manriquez, aka ‘Chuni’. He moved to “La Marina” to work with Captain Jorge Verdugo (known as ‘Lion’) for about three years. Then he had the opportunity to captain aboard “Porque No”, “La Pinata”, “Chureya and the “Vagabundo” for Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort. It was here that he met Mr. ‘Togo’ Hazzard. Vicente earned the trust and friendship of Togo and the opportunity to captain his personal Fleet “Dusty’s”, that later became the “DOTTIE BII”.

Marco Garcia is the son of the well-known and well-loved Cirilo Garcia who was a long-time friend and crew member of Hotel Buena Vista Beach Resort. He was born in Las Cuevas BCS into a family of commercial and sport fishermen and growing up, surrounded himself with friends who worked in the fishing industry. He started as a Deck Hand working back-up and on-call for different boats here at the hotel for about five years before he earned a chance to captain a super panga called “El Cazador”. Then in 2006 he started work aboard the “DOTTIE BII” with his friend and also Godfather Vicent Cosio.

The “DOTTIE BII” is a multi-award winner in the Tournament Circuit. 1st place in Copa Bomberos in La Paz, coming close in El Debate Class A and Class B winning 2nd and 3rd, winning the Dorado Shootout Eastcape jackpot, 2nd place overall in the Bisbee Eastcape, 1st place Tuna overall Los Cabos, 1st and 2nd in Los Cabos Big Game Charter Boat Classic 2016 and 1stplace 2014 Tuna Las Playitas PLC Tournament.
