Last report for me this spring, heading back north in a few days so the admiral doesn't burn my stuff....
Fishing with Pancho Barracuda and a couple of my local amigos. Very calm winds yesterday. Last couple days have been mid 80's, water still pretty cool, but I didn't happen to look too see the temp. Headed out at 6, grabbed some macs (receiver only had 15 for us, slow fishing for them some nights and lots of orders to fill this time of year). Couple boats fishing mac's just off the SW side of Coronado, but we headed for the North side of Carmen. Lots of boats working the few boils, most hotrodding right into the middle of them. Some fish tailing around and sardines on the surface. Birds pretty calm. Chucking surface irons and yoyo, one of us with a dropper mac. I hung one on a blue/white tady 4/0 and we picked one up on the Mac. Armando hooked up to something big with a blue/chrome Sumo and got rocked after a brief fight, couldn't stop it. Big Amberjack maybe. The mac picked up a decent cabrilla, then we called Listo and headed north east on pretty flat seas.
Reverse dropper with live Mac, a 300 gm knife jig, and a 3 hook chicken rig/dropper with Mac chunks. 400' ish depth.
Chicken rig was hot, several double and triples of Mex rock fish and smallish Baquetta, occasionally catching white fish, Sandia or pintos. Live mac produced a couple nice Baquetta but no really big ones. Couple good rock fish and pescado blanco on the knife and other yoyos.
Headed for the marina at 12:30 with sore arms. Bien Dia! Lots of fun with Pancho and my amigos. Mucho pescado to fillet and get ready to travel back to Montana. Finished the day with a great meal with Armando's family at a birthday party, jurel and Carne asada tacos, some of the best ceviche i have ever had. Everyone was so nice. Really love this place and the people that live here.
Back to reality next week unfortunately...
