Went out with Pancho Barracuda yesterday. Brought my neighbor and the kid that works for him, who had never caught a YT. Wind was forecasted to pick up around mid day.
Picked up some macks and headed for East side of Coronado to see if any YT were on the surface. Chilly run but all I needed was my wind breaker/rain coat. No action apparent so went straight to San Bruno.
4-5 other boats there with a couple more behind us. Some jigging, most dragging baits. We put one down at 90' on the rigger, and another one on a reverse dropper, which picked up first fish 5 minutes later. Victor the Yellowtail virgin busted his cherry on a 20# ish model. Was really cool to watch him deal with it, reminding me of my first yellowtail.
After a slow next 20-30 minutes Pancho moved us off towards the beach 3-400 yards and we immediately picked one up on the rigger. "Too many boats right there" Pancho said.
Not wide open by any means, but steady action all morning. My neighbor and I both got one, then let Victor pull on the rest while we cheered on.
Had around 12 bites and we put 6 in the box and headed for the barn around 11 before the wind started to whip up, timming it perfectly to have a relatively smooth ride back. Great day with my amigo Pancho.
Once we got fish cleaned etc, headed to Poblano's in Miramar for some El Pastor tacos.
Love this place!!
