Spent the weekend down in Loreto with a nice group of friends and family last weekend. Weather was absolutely epic and the little town is as clean and charming as I remembered it over 15 years ago. The trip was just 3 nights but it was full of memorable activities. Anyone looking to get away to a gem of baja and be able to keep the lady at bay with a gorgeous resort in a charming little fishing town should take note and try to make a trip in the future. Loreto and La Mision hotel will not dissapoint. Think of awesome fishing, diving, snorkling and a 5 star resort with amazing service and staffing for a fraction of the bill. This place is a baja paradise and very easy on the wallet, best of all they were able to cater to all of our groups needs.

Saturday morning we had a group fishing trip. After friday night we lost a few anglers but 6 of the total group of 17 woke up with dreams of screaming drags and perfect conditions. After watching a memorable sunrise we headed out to the marina, which was just a couple hundred yards from the hotel. We split the 6 anglers over 3 pangas and headed out around 8am.

The marina was nice with a really good launch ramp for private boaters.

We were able to get great bait which consisted of a healthy crew of "caballitos" aka big eyed skad / google eye's for 20 bucks from a local panguero. We got about 15 pieces of bait for 20 bucks..

after that we made the run in perfect conditions to Punta Almeja about 30-35 miles north up the beach, I partnered up with my buddy Kat for the trip, the wife stayed back getting massage and tanning at the hotel
    [IMG]

We made our 1st drift and got into a great bite from the 1st drop

I got my limit in about 45 minutes and began drinking beers and talking smack to the other panga guys.

We ended up with limits for 6 anglers in just under a couple of hours, we were back at the marina by 11:30. Everything was cleaned, vac packed, flash frozen and brought back to share with our respective families. We brought a couple fresh one's back to the hotel as well and had them make sushi rolls, ceviche and hamachi plates for us. The hotel restaurant did an excellent job with that.

All in all a fantastic weekend with great fishing and activities...

Mind posting prices of the hotel and panga trip?

Interested in making a trip that way.

    Thanks

    bryan,
The hotel gave us a special rate on the rooms because we were a group of 17. So I think the room rate was a bit cheaper for us. But a mountain view room is 103 a night and a ocean view room is 120 a night (according to the website link below). Keep in mind the rooms are appointed to the level of a 4 seasons here in the states. LCD tv's, wifi, room service, fancy sheets, etc. The spa and it's treatments were very modestly priced as well.. A great value for what your are getting imho....

The concierge of the hotel arrainged the pangas through Arturos panga fleet. The cost I believe was 75 per angler or 150 a panga. This included license, lunch, 12 beers, sodas, waters and fish cleaning costs. We did have to pay 20 bucks for bait and I chose to leave our cappy with a 50 dollar tip. The panga would have run a full day had we not gotten limits early. You could break it up and do a 1/2 fishing 1/2 snorkel day at one of the islands for this cost as well. Arturos panga skippers were very knowledgable local anglers which also spoke decent english. They even had decent gear on the boats although I brought my own. I highly reccomend it!

Love that hotel. The all you can eat wood-fired pizza night by the pool is epic.

Man does that bring back memories. I used to go to a place called the Flying Sportsman Lodge with my father and grandfather. Got totally hooked on fishing while in Loreto. Fish all day with dad and gramps and then go back out with the kitchen crew to throw irons and catch cabrilla close to the rocks.

I still have shark teeth collected from that beach in the picture of the boats on the sand. I gotta get back there for old times sake.

Looks like you guys had an awesome trip. Congrats!!!!! The pics are great.

thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
