I have owned every major brand of outboard except a honda. All have their pluses and minuses. Currently my big boat is powered by a Yamaha. I am a giant Yamaha fan. The etech g2 may prove to be a super motor but to date they are a new technology. A repower is a large investment, as with all my investments I try to error on the side of safety. The Yamaha is a known quanity and you do a spreadsheet to calculate your expenses without unknowns. The other question is trusted dealers and service in your area? Last if you but a motor out of state it needs to be shipped to a certified installation service or dealer to maintaintain the warrenty. Best of luck!

More food for thought is Yamaha is running their spring promotion currently and giving $$ credit or 2 additional years of extended warranty free of charge. Now thru March 31, 2016. Perhaps talk to the boys over at West Coast Marine Services in Costa Mesa. They are at the PCS Fishing Festival at the OC Fairgrounds this weekend.....

I swore I would never own another 2 stroke until I ran the G2s. They are the most powerful, torquey motors I've ever run. The hole shot and acceleration is incredible.

My buddy Rush had almost 1000 hours on his first set without an issue.

His fuel burn on the 32' andros went from 1.3mpg with G1s to 1.65mpg with the g2s. For a guy that runs 200 trips a year that's huge. That is cruising at about 38 mph.

By comparison a 32' contender I was on recently with twin Yami 300's got 1.15 mpg.

The oil is a bummer but the lack of moving parts and maintenance makes up for it. In the end you use about 1 gallon of oil for about a hundred gallons of fuel.

Also their guage package, steering and controls are really slick. You can adjust steering rate and tension right on the dash.

All of the current crop of outboards are awesome but I can't help but be impressed by the G2s.

Are you 25" or 30" shaft length?

I know of a few brand new f300s that a boat builder has overstocked.........

I have no experience with the new G2's, but I've had my 115hp E-tec going on three years now, with zero problems. I'm getting 3-4 mpg with my 19 ft CC, depending on sea state. My buddy Rick (Dagoose) has around 2000 hrs on his 90hp E-tec no issues. Hes getting 6-7 in his 18 CC.

All the new motors out now are bad ass; Yamaha, E-tec or Honda, I don't think you can go wrong with any of them..

I will have a 2013 yamaha f250 with 300 hrs, 1 yr remaining warranty end of this month. Package includes wiring harnesses, rigging, key switch, gauges and prop.

A turn key solution for someone looking to repower.

$14,500

Looks like you've sold yourself on the G2, report back after you have a few 100 hours on it.

Not yet! I am in the investigation stage for shopping for a new engine! Kind of hard to buy a motor when your motor only has 500 hours on it and it runs great!

What is the reason for wanting to repower...
$30+K for a 300hp repower in alot of cheese for wanting to have "the best"...
When you have a perfectly functioning reliable powerplant as long as it's not under-powered...

Don't forget rigging. Digital rigging not cheap. Evinrude spline counts are different than yamaha/mercury so a new prop might be on the list as well.

And gear ratios on the big 4.2L motor isn't the same as the 3.3L, so your prop size might not be 'ideal'.

You'll be at $26 before tax before you know it. That quote didn't have the 7-10 hours of install labor at $115/hour ....

Call around the shops and ask if they have any deals. The last F300 i bought from my source in florida gave me about $1300 off for a counter rotating motor he had in stock for a while that didnt sell. On a single it makes no difference (besides getting used to the prop walk in the opposite direction). I did have to buy a new prop so that ate into the savings, but since you would need one anyway, that wouldn't matter.

Try messing with a few different props. I ran the wrong prop for a full year. My new prop dropped my cruise (20-24kts) from 4500rpm avg to 4000rpm avg. My top speed at wot is 7 kts less but who ever runs 40+kts without losing a teeth.

I think those G2's are ugly! Still a nice motor and I noticed that all the new Boat US RIB's are running twin 200 G2's.

I repowered my 2310 with a Yamaha 250hp in 2008. I have 2600 hours on it. I'm mixed on the motor. You don't need a 300. How fast do you need to go? I can go nearly 40 now. 2 to 2.4 mpg. The maintenance is a killer. Needy motors. Upper end lower end filters ect. Pain in the ass and has to be done. I like the thought of a less needy motor like the etec. If you fish a lot and have to do 3 services a year and don't do them yourself, that's a big cost. Food for thought. Your welcome to come down for a ride if you want to see how it feels and handles.

I think after I have 4 guys loaded with all there gear 200 pounds of ice 150 gallons of fuel I still want to cruse 40 knots! I think the 250 is a little small and working too hard plus I like to be the first one to find the fish on the patties!
