My bailiner isn’t definitely not remotely capable of this as it’s a runabout Trihull design. It was designed with an open bow for playing in the bay. Also there is no reason for me to go spend $300 to go out to Cortez bank to find out what kind of boats are going out there. There are plenty of users on this forum doing it so it’s okay to talk to them. Frankly if I wanted to I could go sail my 33’ foot sailboat out there and set up some lines and troll and sail around for a day and then take a line up to Catalina. However my bait will be dead by the time I get there and it really won’t be that pleasant of a trip. What I’m trying to say is your post really wasn’t that remotely helpful.

Going from fishing in the bay to Cortez bank is a bit of a jump. You really need to learn the ins and out of fishing on the islands and local offshore before you go out 100 miles. You will wish you are on a bigger boat when the swells and the wind come up in the banks.

I suggest you sell all four of your boats and actually buy a decent 21-22 foot boat first. Once you master that, you can think bigger. Your budget is not high enough for a decent 30+ foot boat in good conditions. You may find out later that a 30+ foot boat is not ideal because you may not be able to trailer it, need to rent a dock and the fuel bill goes up the roof along with your fuel efficiency.

A sailboat is not ideal for fishing especially if the wind is not pushing the boat to where the fish are located. I really don't think you have thought this out clearly enough yet. To get a decent boat in that range, you need at least a $30K-$45K budget. A lot of other people already gave you good advice what to look for.

I was being a sarcastic ass when I said I could take my sailboat out there (I could but there is no point). The point was that I didn’t have to go out on H&M fishing trip to Cortez to see what boats are out there (like was Suggested by that person). I’m probably just going to settle on an island and corner tuning boat getting a 24 ish.

I have a boat you can have if you don’t mind a project.

Like a tattoo... cheap ones aren't good and good ones aren't cheap!

Put safety first! Is whatever that $15000 boat carrying worth more than $15000?

Have you ever broke down in the bay? Between Catalina and long beach? 60 miles offshore? Sure vessel assist can come save you...

Having tried it all from a Kayak to a 35ft Bertram... I can say having the range and peace of mind offshore was comforting but it came at a steep price, and sleeping out in the middle of the ocean isn't really easy without a top notch crew and a top notch boat!

Good luck and remember you are worth more than a cheap boat.

If you want a boat, they’ll all cost you one way or the other

Yup. We have all been there. I prefer the good used boat with great hull that doesn't require me to cut off the floorboard to replace the gas tanks. I think fixing up a good decent boat is the better deal because you learn a lot more than if you bought an expensive good boat that you can drive right away but have no idea how to fix it. If the person is not a fix-it type of guy, its best to just pay the big bucks upfront. My favorite part is the rewiring jobs.

My brother's favorite line is "you just bought yourself a project!" I had at least 3 project boats.

I definitely would take a look. Is it on a trailer?
Here is the original thread. It seems like a great boat if you are willing to put in the elbow grease. I love resurrecting old boats on their last legs. I think Bob is too sentimental to chop her up into pieces just to haul it off the yard.

She can be in the Tanner and Cortez Banks by next week fishing 200 lb tuna.

How long has it been sitting? Or would you say it’s a full rebuild?

Read the description and the replies. Bob explained the current condition of the trailer, hull and engine in the link. He even mentioned how long it has been sitting.

"Never seen saltwater, and ran when I got it seven years ago."

"Hours of labor is really an unknown. The engine needed a fuel pump when I brought it home, but that was a while ago. I’m certain the carburetor will need to be rebuilt and a good tune up at a minimum. The outdrive will also need to be serviced and bellows replaced.

Your level of water ready may differ from others as well. There’s no bait tank or plumbing for one, so if that’s something you want, you’ll have to add that. The entire interior has been gutted out, but my plan was to take the cabin off and convert it to a center console. All the exterior wood is rotted, but I kept it all for templates. This is a good DIY project as a shop would charge 10x what the boat is worth to bring it up to par. The tires were new when I got it, and still look good but they are old enough now that I wouldn’t trust them to go too far."

Never look at a gift horse in the mouth.

You don't have to be a dick about it. The trailer itself is worth more than the free price. That is why its offered as a free boat. Now go fuck off if you don't like it. I wish you the best in your endeavors.

Wtf man, you have been a dick to me multiple times. Furthermore I never said that the trailer wasn’t any good just that the boat itself wasn’t worth salvaging. If you want to call me a dick and to fuck off I royally hope that you get skunked on your next fishing trip you fucking cunt. Now go start your own thread to be a bottom feeder in.

It shows what type of person you are. I haven't been a dick to you about anything. I just straight told you the truth whether you wanted to hear it or not. Even Arima Bob offered you a great deal. If you didn't like what we said, that is another thing. Its your own opinion.

You are high of yourself with your fucking stupid ideas about doing at a low cost. There is no such thing as low costs with boat ownership. The $15k budget wouldn't buy you a shit house to sit on in today's market. Trust me, Arima Bob has way more experience on boats than you will ever gain with that attitude. I really don't need to start a thread on begging others for their opinions on boats if I didn't already have experience with owning them. Hopefully your maturity will improve as you age and gain more experience in life.

I really wish you the best. Being told to fuck off is a common theme in BDoutdoors. If you can't take it, grow thicker skin.

This is the official BDoutdoors salute.
