I'm looking to get myself a jigstick and reel for BFT up to 100lbs. What are your guys go to combo? If you guys got any recommendations on blanks too that would be great. Thanks

So many different combos u can choose from and what u want to pull on that big fish with. I had he opportunity to get one on my cut down seeker 540 cut 4" off tip and 8" off butt to make 9' wit a hx raptor on 60lb ended up being a 137 bf. It took 30 minutes to land him. But long rod less leverage most guy with a 8' heavy or xh rod like super seeker 6480h or xh any reel with a lot of line. My hx had 100lb hollow core to served in 60lb off 75 yards.

My go to combo for this year was a calstar GFDH800xh with a Penn fathom 40nld2 for any heavier jigs or poppers fishing strait 80# solid braid to a 5' flouro topshot.

I rod swapped my Ulua with a friend in a pretty wide open yellow bite at Cedros for his 800xh and hxj raptor filled with 80. I thought I would hate it, but was pretty surprised how well that rod fished with a 7x. Not quite the feel or distance as a true surface iron rod, but once hooked up it was very very effective in getting fish in the boat quick and the casting distance didnt suffer nearly as much as I expected it to.

I have an all glass 90j for lighter surface iron with a star drag and totally agree it's better for distance with surface iron and lighter poppers. The 800xh has also surprised me at its versitility as well. Now I use it for dropper loop, 50 & 60# heavy flyline, and yo-yo iron as well. I like the forgiveness of an 8' rod for shorter topshots so fishing it slightly heavy is intended. I'm sure it isn't ideal for all aspects, but I like it personally and that's all that matters

One more vote for the 800XH. I've fished mine with a Trini 40N and a Fathom 40NLD2. Both work well. Trini for surface iron... Fathom for bombs, etc.

I fished 800xh with a avet HX at Guadalupe and I loved it . I got yellowfin to a 100lb with it and did not even struggle.
