    Hi and hello....

Looking to tie in an generator to my house electrical panel which will not back feed to the power lines, wanting to be able to plug in a generator in for emergency and power outages....

So I guess looking for a licensed electrican that can do this and give me some info...

    Thanks Gary

    I have a Honda 5kw.
Soft wired the 220 back into the 220 dryer receptacle in the garage when needed.
    It works.

You need to install a 3-wire disconnect that isolates your service from the utility before you plug a generator into an existing wired plug......

You are asking for a world of hurt if you don't isolate before energizing.....

You got a 10 gauge cord and put 2-250 male ends on it?

Maybe I should have Dean stop by before I burn the place down.
But, ya that's what I did and it worked.
I threw the main so I didn't have Edison power coming in, and plugged the gen into the dryer and back fed into the box.
    It's a redneck thing.

That will work. Not that I'm endorsing it
I just wasn't clear on what you meant. The dryer receptacle is easier to get the generator near to, as oppossed to the panel I assume.
It's prolly actually safer than putting a breaker on the end of a heavy cord and putting it in the panel like my friend does LOL
There's a perfect spot to store the generator near my friends panel though. Also the house is newer with excellent grounding.
Important to shut off the disconnect breaker like you mentioned, even though no utility guy is going to treat the line as dead.

I thought about doing it that way... But I would blow something up or burn something down... I think I want it done by a licensed electrician...
Just for the legal end of it as in insurances etc.....

When you are backfeeding into the panel couldn't you cause a "brownout"

Very dangerous.... Turning off the circuit breaker does not disconnect the neutral from the utility.... that is not switched.....
