    Greetings BD family...
I trust everyone had a great Labor Day weekend? Time has flown into my favorite time of the year. Fish are biting, the boat crowds and summer vacationers are dwindling, and others are heading back to school. Always the best time for me to hold my annual charity charter(s) for late September/October out of San Diego. Unfortunately, my finances are a bit tight this season but I'm still determined to keep this tradition going. I may just be limited to just one half day outing. Still, it's a way for me to continue honoring my Dad's memory, the one who taught me to fish. (23 years USN Ret., 32nd Street Pacific Fleet S.D.) It's the least I can do as well for a few others who have served. Many of you in the past have been gracious enough to help out with reel/rod donations or offered very affordable gear that you no longer use or are in need of. My one (hopefully two?) charters this season will be benefiting teenagers and their single parents, two retired veterans, a handful of newbies and a few anglers who are less fortunate economically. Currently I'm in need of 3-4 simple live bait conventional rods in the 15-40 lb. class and 3-4 simple conventional reels. Even terminal tackle that I can give away will help! My target price range would be $20-30. (PayPal Friends & Family) I can and have repaired older Sealine's and Penn Jigmasters, Squidders, Surfmasters, etc. After reel maintenance or repair (Alan Tani way), these participants then get to keep the rod & reel combo after their fishing trip. Priceless memories on top of big smiles! Bringing home fish is just the added bonus. I've worked with many of you over the last three years and have no problem paying for shipping fees if need be. (not rods though, ridiculous "oversize" fee surcharges now!) I will be flying back home to San Diego September 20th so local meetup is possible as well. Please contact me only if you are serious and feel led to assist the less fortunate. Let's share our passion with those who also wish to partake in this sport that we all love so much!

    Grateful in advance,

    Marcel (KuyaMonster)

Apologies if I'm forgetting anyone but big shout out and much mahalo to the following: Coastalwerks (Lance),Workplacesafety (Jeff), Styxchaser (Sheldon), Lake (Blaine), BluefinCurly (Carl), Cowman (Jake), Wanderingblues (Curtis), HBouldin (Henry), Jason Hayashi (for the BD swag), etc...

I’ve got some older Penn Sabres I’d be happy to donate, but I’m in south OC. Do make it up this way?

Got some old Okuma Convector right-hand levelwinds, CV15L and CV20L. They have upgraded drags, are cleaned and recently self-serviced as per Alan Tani method, spooled with spectra, ready to fish. They’ve slayed many a halibut and rockfish.

These would be great first reels for someone, they were for me.

You can have them for the cost of shipping, or if there’s a good meet-up option.

When are your trips? I’ll be in San Diego for my annual trip 10/2 and can get you a couple of new Okuma PCH rods- 12-25# and 20-50#.

Glad to hear back from you Marcel. Had my back procedure today and will be down for a few days, but will ship a box of my Penn parts as soon as it is safe to drive.

I hosted a fishing tackle estate sale for a friend a few weeks ago. There may be a few odds and ends left over. I think my friend would donate if he were still around. If there is anything left I will include it.

Could you use an old Calstar 660h? It has a roller tip and first roller guide with standard guides in between.

Little heavy for what you are looking for but if you can use it it is yours.

Can we kick in some cash to help with the charter? I can't remember what I gave last year but I don't have much to give aside from an older saber rod, which I'll try to get to Matt.

Thanks so much for the replies so far, gentlemen! I've messaged those who have responded. You guys are all amazing. (Blaine, you rock!) And thank you again this season, Styx! I'm sure your buddy will be smiling down from above, knowing that his gear will be helping out a good cause. My first trip goes Sept. 27th and I'm now looking to book a 2nd trip the first week of October. (Booking window is 10/1-6) If anyone who donates wants to meet at the landings, I can do that as well if it's a more convenient option...

    Much mahalo!
