Jenn and I only had a couple hours to kill Saturday morning and decided to put in a little time searching for a local ling spot close to the new slip in Pedro.

Found some nice structure in 185 feet of water that was only a couple miles from the slip.

Jenn started things off with a nice copper.

Jenn also got a nice brown rockfish on her next drop.

Then I got lucky with a decent goat.

We also got some short, but fat little staries.

We were getting pretty close to our limits, and still hadn't caught a ling, so we left to look around in a couple other spots before we had to head in. Unfortunately all we found were more coppers, browns, barber poles, etc. but no dang lingers.

Oh well, we had a fun couple hours of relatively shallow water rockfishin' and had plenty for fish tacos on Sunday with Jenn's family....which was capped off by a nice Laker win. Bynum sure looked good.

I am thinking about kids all the time.....mostly about how I am not ready for them. :)

I will put you on speaker phone so Jenn can hear what you have to say.

I can tell you one thing, if and when we do have kids, I sure hope they like to fish, because that's all their parents do.

    Hey Johnathan,

Fished the lings alot on the local wrecks and pinacles around San Pedro and PV. They seem to be very partial to sand dabs as bait, particularly around the wrecks. I've tried live squid, mackeral, sardines etc with limited results even when on the fish. The dabs were instant strikes and violent. Might want to give this a try. 9/0 or 10/0 hook with a 50# leader and a sinker on a lighter dropper off a 3-way swivel so if the hang the weight you can bust it off and still get the fish. Done it many times on private and party boats, they really like the wrecks. Just my 2-cents.
