Finally got a chance to do a little hooping this year. I have heard how slow it has been locally but wanted to give it a try. Hooped about 10 times last year and had near limits every time we went. I was taking a new guy with me who had been trying to catch some lobster and wasn't having any luck. I went out early to try to catch some mac's but couldn't find any. When you don't need them they are everywhere and when you need them they are not around. Set the hoops before sunset and tried to wait a bit. I am always a little impatient and probably pulled them to early. Zero on the first set. Re-set and let them soak a bit longer this time and on the first pull LobsterZilla came up. It was the biggest lobster I have ever seen or caught. I thought about keeping the beast but decided it was better to let him/her go. We took some pictures and send him/her back to the reef to breed. Spent the night picking away at them but it was slow. Ended the night with 8 keepers. There were two other boats fishing the same area and they had 2 and 3 each. Beautiful night, weather was perfect and lobster for dinner.
