Every one knows that salmon heads is a popular bait for lobster. Heres my question...

Has anyone ever tried trout heads&/or carcass for bait ?? Although very similar to look &smell and is somehow someway related to salmon, it got me curious. Now that tuna and yellowtail are gone for now, Ive been on a few successful trout trips. As I'm filleting my trout , it got me curious about this. If you dont know, ask, right ??
I look forward to your feedback

As long as you don't use trouser trout, you should be OK.

Just kidding! Use oily bait like sardines, mackerel, skipjack, etc.

The more scent you get in the water, the better!

Well that's a very contradictory statement for me... Few cups of morning coffee after a late night of taco bell...

Boy, the DFG does not make any mention of specific baits you cannot use, at least from my brief research. Anyone have any specific info? I cannot find any mention, just the same old site.

I use Norwegian mackerel (as opposed to US mackerel??) that I get from the local Asian market. It seems that they like this for some reason, it’s in 3 fillets already precut for about $6/bag. I just chop it up and stick it in my cages. I’ve also used your run of the mill macs that hang out around here, they seem to work too

the whole thing crunched up and stuffed in the square cage, be careful of spines. the square cages fit in a gallon ziplock. I freeze them in the ziplock, and use , refreeze back in the ziplock.
