    Water 59, semi-clear

About a mile straight out of Mission Bay there was a party: Gulls, terns, cormorants, pelicans, sea lions, and dolphins, all going crazy with boiling bait. Couldn't tell if there was anything other than bait. Couldn't get anything to bite my trolled rapala or thrown irons. Are those sometimes bait-only parties?

Up to the edge of the kelp in LJ. Finally got three 15 inch calicos within an hour from 1130-1230. Got all three with a whole once-frozen squid hooked on to a leadhead, and dropped down to 50 feet or so and just drifting in 60-70 feet of water near the kelp edge. Never tried that before but worked pretty good!

"whole once-frozen squid hooked on to a leadhead" - that may be a patent-able technic! :-) thanks for sharing

Usually its mackerel pushing up fry when they wont hit your Rapala, especially this time of year. However you should always check it out, at a minimum you can Sibiki it and load up on big bait..

    Agree with that.....
Fished that area also on Sunday. TONS of Mack’s and not much biting except a few decent Calicos....slow day overall.....
