hey everyone.. purchased the stella 18000 a few years back. Headed on the pacific queen in late sept. and wondering if anyone had recommendations for what size braid to use and if color really matters.. bringing a few rods down there but it’s been a few years since I’ve fished the warm waters down south. Using it for jigs. I had the hollow braid on there before and want to stay away from it.. not a fan. Thank you in advance! I’m thinking 65 lb..?

80lb MC yellow gets bit by big BFT, especially on Stella’s.

How much capacity do you need? 65lb seems way light and you're going to spend a lot of money spooling it. In the northeast 80lb is typical, and we even use 100lb on Cape for giants.

...Using it for jigs...
Will that be for surface, vertical, flat falls, or slow pitch?

For the latter three, multi-color maybe a consideration to track depth.

STL18000SWBHG: MONO 20/415,25/340,30/280 of...so for BRAID 65/440 or 100/415. For you, does the extra 25yds of 65lb braid hold a significant advantage over a spool of 100lb braid instead? With "standard" braid/top shot setups (i.e., where tag end abrasion is NOT a factor), the former will cap top shots to 60lb whereas the latter will allow for 60, 80, and 100lb top shots.

I had the hollow braid on there before and want to stay away from it.. not a fan.
So if not a full spool of hollow, what about hollow just for the solid braid to top shot connection? IMHO, hollow connections solves most, if not all, knot-thru-guides issues...YMMV.
