Hola, my BD's friends and calcutta 400TE owners!!

what braid line test are you using in this reel?
    40# or 50#?
shimano site shows 305yd/50# braid line capacity I may be wrong but for me spool size seems too small to fit that amount of line.

my goal is to have at least 250yds braid and 30# mono top leader, I think this will be more than enough for cabrillas, YT and bonitos.

my reel is brand new and waiting for been filled with the correct line
tnx in advance for your help as always

PS: I already have a spool of 300yd white braid jerry brown 40# test
and another 300yd 50# braid of spider line

id fill it with at least 65lb. that reel is big enough to put 80lb but probably isnt needed.

according to shimano site, this will give like 180yd, do you set your drags at any # or just tight to turn fish heads?

65#pp / 40#mono seems like a nice rig option, it will be a real difference from having 300yd 50#pp from the 180yd with 65# with the stopping power of the reel?

also I really havent make my mind in using it with straight PP line or mono topshot, any comment?

just enough for a solid hookset but not enough to pull the hook.

i would load it with 65lb and put a floro topshot.

On my star drag reels I just free ball it, no scale. Just whatever feels right with the rod your using.

If your going to go with a 40lb topshot go with floro over mono... Less strech and they wont be able to see it...Alot of guys that are casting right into the kelp use straight braid, after reading ben florentino's angler profile he says he uses straight powerpro and he catches a few bass here and there...

I have just shy of 300 yds of 50 lb Power Pro on my 401TE with a few yards of whatever fluorocarbon shock leader I feel like tying on.
