Got the call from Moon that the New Lo-An needed people to get off the landing..
Everyone I talked to said that the bluefin were still hanging out outside of SCI but boats were having problems getting enough people to get out.

I gave it some thought and was all in within a few minutes.

Filled up my flask w/ bourbon and met him at his house and drove down from there. Traffic was minimal until we reached SD and we hit their local traffic.

Boat finally left the landing at 8:15p.m with only 11 guys. Got to the bait barge and got some super sexy bait that had been cured for 14 days! Oh yeah, it was a great start.

Woke up at 5a.m. and started working the flat fall. Some guys were fly lining bait but no action. Capt. came on the loudspeaker and said he was gonna start looking around. We stopped a few times on some meter makes but nothing.

At 8:15a.m. they spotted breaking fish 1/2 mile out. Everyone got pumped. As we got closer we saw it was 50lb-grade yellowfin.

We tried and tried but they wanted nothing to do with us.

Finally at around 9:30a.m the capt. meters a school and our luck flips. Wide open Bluefin. It only lasted a few minutes but we were energized. We keep searching and about an hr. later we found another school of Bluefin that were hun-gry! We started off using 25 and 30lb test. Toward the end guys were using their 60 and 80lb set ups.

We easily got limits for all they guys and crew.

Major, major compliments to the New Lo-An, everything about that operation is top notch. The cook hooked it up, super delicious chorizo burritos for breakfast and he murdered it w/ po’ boys and fresh clam chowder for lunch. BOMB!

The crew was very friendly, extremely helpful, and were all business when the fishing went wide open.

I did want to point out one important thing, I have never seen anyone care for fish on an overnighter the way these guys did it. As soon as the first bite was over, they pulled all the gill and guts from every fish. Then, directly in the RSW..Very impressive.

Overall a great trip. Got a chance to fish an awesome boat with only 11 guys??? Shit, you couldn’t beat that.

I have always wanted to fish on the new lo ann. Seems like they are the top 1.5 day boat as far as BFT.
