For contents sake.
Hit La Jolla up for the yellow bite that’s going on. Found them up close to shore at grey wall but they were on a giant ball of mixed bait, couldn’t fool one on the iron. It was fun watching them go tho! (Plus It was also just nice to bust out the old jig stick, and sling the J pots and tady 45’s. Which is always a good time)
-We tried the deep drop for them in case we could get one on their way out of there but nothing came of it.

Ended up falling back to our goat hole and it was wide open goat fishing at its best. It went shrimp down-goat up; on repeat with the occasional surgar bass and small calico mixed in. All released. Bite was instant as soon as it hit bottom. Had a few standouts trying to rip our arms off, but nothing special. The bite only died when we ran out of shrimp and left. No photos for us. It was beautiful conditions just before the weather. Hoping to squeeze in a few last trips before Jans wrist surgery.
- Inshore is still doing great. And it’s pretty empty out there traffic wise.

What area is the "grey wall" at?
The grey walls of Marine St beach
It has 3 of them a north, middle and south
The south wall is the longest and on really high tides like we had on 12/10 the yellows usually hang off those boilers. And the backside of the bull kelp Bait runs up and down that stretch year around.

(WE CLEARLY FISH FARTHER OFF THEN WERE THE ARROWS START…..)

It’s a great spot all around for shallow water skiff fishing. Start in the middle find the drift and angle and it’s usually fantastic calico fishing. Then once you get the lay of the current, adjust accordingly. We’ve had some incredible bites there over the years wide open 3B’s and great yellows off the edge of the bull kelp in there.
It’s close tho stay vigilant is key especially when the yellows are chewing, it’s tucked into the back of the kelp some years with other years; it’s the northern most edge of the kelp. It’s a great little spot but again it’s close. Hit it on the incoming highs. Sometimes tho the new Seaforth will pull up in there and it’s best to just leave it alone.

More importantly, where is the goat hole ?
(asking for a friend) :hali_olutta:
It’s right under the waypoint (X) marked Goat hole on my fish finder.
In Roughly 68’-79’ of water bites every time!

How close is the mlp to marine street?
marine protected area
It’s north of the MlPA by 3 beaches (1/2 mile) We’ve got the MLPA’s mapped into cards and unites to the max it will throw an alarm when we are drifting and get within 50 yards of it. I’ve been fishing this inshore for decades.

Get out of my set bro! These here are my waves!

helping each other out and growing in community was what this forum was all about right! I remember when boat budding was popular but remember when boat hoe’s were actually invited out fishing.

I remember way back in the days where if I said I’ve got a goat spot if someone wants to go goat fishing! the next day or so I’d actually get friendly invites or find a solid angler to jump onboard who’d go with the flow and knew the basic etiquette's of boat hoeing without Instagram worthy expectations.
It’s unfortunate we lost that, as a group we’re stronger together, but it is what it is. I can only hope it somewhat comes back.

And for you few guys who are actually posting reports regularly…. CHEERS TO YOU! You guys rock! You know who you are! SLIDER…. ALLEN… Cody.. RODRAGE… lowprofile…
And you consistent others. Thank you on behalf of all the lurkers!

It’s been a long painful 6 months since I sold my sled… man I can’t wait for the next one… it’s close I can feel it… any day now 🤞🏼.
Hopefully be able to hang up my deckhand Grundens for good!

Cool to C n R Smylee and thanks for the boundary line at Bigrock Troy. I've tried to look at the numbers but never quite figured out what the edge of the boundary was.
Last summer on our way in we stopped by LJ. worked our way in the shallows. Because there was nothing biting where the kelp line used to be, we drifted in shallows 25'- 40' and every 6" dine was bit. Got to be careful of the boiler rocks! Can get easily distracted. Sometimes better to be the mate than the captain. Saved the offshore trip with a dozen 2-4lb calico bass on flyline dines. (C & R) I'll eat a bass but I got some Mahi in the freezer. Sometimes they hold close to the shore.

Thank you for the awesome report and the good will with sharing information on spots. Also, thank the good lord someone is fishing because I'm cooped up itching to go and my boss (my wife) has us booked up with events, kid events, and I'm living vicariously through bd. My backyard is a mud pit so I can't drag the boat out for a week.

:p:

All kidding aside, props on posting a semi timely report. I too share the same results as you chucking iron at homeguards this year. Greenbacks on the other hand...
-Green backs are the key!. But man o man I’ve been trying with no avail to load up my red 529 on a yellow. I swear any other jig stick and it’s game on. But once the lami comes out nothin…. One day some day that stick will connect.
-But it looks like deep dropping the LJC with green backs amberjack style. will be the ticket this winter for big yellows. Unless your able to get to the islands. My neighbor just got on some decent yellows caught behind “birds nest” And “the pile of sugar” all on live bait. Up close he said pull up-drop lines-drift off- repeat!

I’ve been fishing that shallow to ultra shallow a lot recently getting a better feel for all aspects inshore and to my surprise that 20’-50’/60’ water zone IS HOT! We’re usually the only knuckle heads in there besides the spearo’s who are like GET OUT of our zone….. just because they know they’ve got it all! I’m come to realize that our inshore out to the 20 fathom curve is RIPE for the pickings daily…. Never had I have an uneventful day. There’s ALWAYS a bite happening. -Unless I’m standing on deck tying knots bagging fish and fixing the tangles in the stern corners while telling the guy fishing the wrong side of the boat TO MOVE… PLEASE??$?$? pretty please 🙏🏻

You are a kind angler sir, thank you- as a new-ish boat going angler that’s not in SD, it’s refreshing to see this level of detail

No pics? How come never any pics? Sounds like an incredible day. But it’s been windy, rainy and 3-5 for surf. Doesn’t add up.
12/10 as stated above was the day prior the weather moving in. Just in case you misread the title saying late report 12/10
-
It was a gorgeous day out calm before the storm style day with a ripping down hill tidal current/coefficient . Honestly don’t post reports much as I’ve been fishing new spots lately, and trying new techniques all the time. Been covering a lot of water finding rocks and ledges. Only thing that could of made it nicer would of been, having one of them yellows bite! -Anybody can goat fish with our limit style goat fishery up and down the shore.
-But our inshore is still running strong on them calico you love catching! Just hug the inside, friendship should do just fine getting back in there. You’ve got the right sled to anchor up in there and have a grand ol time. Cheers brotha! Definitely thought about those sheep head wraps you made. Maybe next time👍🏻!
