Hey guys, my girlfriend and I finished out our fishing season with our final charter on the Cortez 10-17 - 10-20. I can’t say enough great things about Rambo and the crew, they work there asses off. I hooked my fish at 8am the first morning roughly #150, the gear used Calstar 7400H, avet hx, 100 solid power pro, 80 premier leader, 3/0 mutu hook, 6oz rubber banded. After I got my fish on the deck my soul focus was to do what I can to help my girl get a nice fish on the deck. She had a tough break on loosing 3 nice kite fish due to not being able to get the slack in fast enough to set the hooks. She also lost a nice fish on #60 due to a hook that straightened out in the first 2 min on the fight (2/0 mutu). She finally hooked a great fish on the gear I was hoping she would. Seeker 1x3, avet hxw 3 speed, 100 solid spectra, 80 premier leader, 3/0 super mutu, 8oz rubber banded. As soon as she hooked up I put my rod in the rack and we fought that fish together for 45 min and it was on the deck #260. It was so much more satisfying for to you help her kill that fish than if were to hook and land it myself. She also got a #90 passed off by a deckhand. I can’t say enough good things about the Cortez and it’s charter master Brian Nguyen!

Great post and picts Brother. Was laughing about that last picture.... thinking about Marlon Brando's voice.... saying "who is that woman there laying ...with the fishes"??

Good for you Brother... and good for her as well. Lucky to have a woman willing to "love" your "love" ..... Fishing!

    Great report and congrats.

In terms of your sinker fish I am assuming when you say 6 ounce rubber banded you were fishing a rubber banded torpedo sinker above the bait.

Was anyone using the new drop shot rig with the sinker below the bait?

I prefer the old school method of rubber banding but I know a lot of the boats are promoted the drop shot rig for sinker fishing.

Yes, a torpedo sinker rubber banded about 5’ up from the hook. I saw one guy hook up on the drop shot style but 90% of the fish came on the rubber band torpedo.

That's a big azz tuna head. I used to give to my employees who made great soup with them.
Glad you all had a great season ending trip!

I've never hooked a fish on either setup lol. It's always flyline for me *Shrug*
