December was a real bummer for fishing for me, lousy weather, some boat repairs and super busy at work. I finally got everything in order and was able to make a trip on New Years eve. I worked late the night before so my girlfriend and I decided to leave the house late and fish till evening time. We left heeia around noon and headed to an area where I had heard there had been some rubbish. We were just happy to be out on the water on such a beautiful variable wind day but I still had visions of full fishboxes, (don't we all). We finally got into the area and and after a little while I spotted a Kami working something. We respectfully approached the rubbish and on our first Pass the rigger came down and took a little line out, a few seconds later the other rigger came down and pulled alot stronger. Got a nice ono in the boat right away and then worked the other one. That one turned out to be a 100lb ahi. Super stoked we set back up again and it was steady action for the next few hours:2gunsfiring_v1: It was getting late and I said the old line, "one more Pass". Sure enough rigger slams down again and this time the 130 made alot more noise. I told my girlfriend that is a bigger fish. After about 30 mins we had it to leader and got it in the boat without any antics. Landed it just after sundown so it was probably one of the last Ahi for 2012, on the troll anyway. My girlfriend did a great job of Cranking fish in, driving and prepping gaffs and meat hooks. She is a really quick learner on the boat. Also wanted to give a shout out to the Northshore Kamicraft that was super cool, plenty guys would get Huhu on such a good bite but they showed us plenty aloha, Mahalo Guys! Happy New Years !

Kekoa and gf, good teamwork for sure. Way to get some fish before the year ended, probably the freshest sashimi served on new years eve.

Good one!

I went out on New Years Eve too, all the fish stay Oahu I guess. No birds, no fish. Only whales!

Great Day Koa and crew! Went out the day before but didn't get all the way to the area. Also the water looks WAAAY nicer than the day before! Congrats on a terrific way to end 2012!

Kekoa and your better half,
What an awesome way to end 2012! Now that is what dreams are made of! I went on a friend's boat and we hit MM, LL and ventured out to 36 miles only to find three Mahis. Didn't see any really substantial rubbish or bird piles......in fact it looked pretty dead! Good luck to you in 2013! Happy New Year!

Thanks for all the Kind words guys, I feel truly blessed to end the year with a catch like that and be able to share it with my girl! Crazy side note to that story is that when we got home around 10pm we found out my GF's small dog had run away from the fireworks! went form an ultimate high to a low. Luckily a kind person found her 2 days later and we were able to get her back unharmed. On top of that the block was closed the entire week so I had to get creative with moving all that fish. In the end it all worked out but it was pretty stressful. Here is a short vid of some blood on the deck. Can't wait to get back out there and DO WORK
