December was a real bummer for fishing for me, lousy weather, some boat repairs and super busy at work. I finally got everything in order and was able to make a trip on New Years eve. I worked late the night before so my girlfriend and I decided to leave the house late and fish till evening time. We left heeia around noon and headed to an area where I had heard there had been some rubbish. We were just happy to be out on the water on such a beautiful variable wind day but I still had visions of full fishboxes, (don't we all). We finally got into the area and and after a little while I spotted a Kami working something. We respectfully approached the rubbish and on our first Pass the rigger came down and took a little line out, a few seconds later the other rigger came down and pulled alot stronger. Got a nice ono in the boat right away and then worked the other one. That one turned out to be a 100lb ahi. Super stoked we set back up again and it was steady action for the next few hours It was getting late and I said the old line, "one more Pass". Sure enough rigger slams down again and this time the 130 made alot more noise. I told my girlfriend that is a bigger fish. After about 30 mins we had it to leader and got it in the boat without any antics. Landed it just after sundown so it was probably one of the last Ahi for 2012, on the troll anyway. My girlfriend did a great job of Cranking fish in, driving and prepping gaffs and meat hooks. She is a really quick learner on the boat. Also wanted to give a shout out to the Northshore Kamicraft that was super cool, plenty guys would get Huhu on such a good bite but they showed us plenty aloha, Mahalo Guys! Happy New Years !
