    Which one ?
If I read your question correctly,

I would measure the from the lowest point from the bottom to the highest point on top and subtract that from 14'6"( mah hieght) and use the differance for your trailer hieght

Why? Are you looking to make your own? What's your model boat?

With so many different single engine straight shaft inboard powered trailer boat with standard V-bottom planing hulls, wouldn't it make sense to go measure some like yours?

this is what the aussies say....

    Ground clearance
The ground clearance of a trailer measured
from the horizontal road surface of any point
on the underside of the trailer except the tyres,
wheel and wheel hubs must, when located to
the Aggregate Trailer Mass (ATM), be not less
than 100mm for any point in the width of the
vehicle which is within one metre for and aft of
    any axle.

    Guy's thanks

What I want to know is what kind of distance do you have from the tip of your strut and prop to the pavement.

A general question about ground clearence that might help me determine how high my boat that I am building (custom Stringari 27 ft) will be overall.

Also if I finish this thing I have to pull it up over the curb to get into the back yard and don't want it to drag.

Hey Leo how's it going, can you PM me with Bob's phone #

    Thanks Mark

    Mark,
Here's what you want it to look like. Same hull you're working on. Sorry, I can't give you the specifics on heights, widths, and length, etc...It's not my boat (it's a friends). Hope that helps a little.

Thanks, I had saved all the pictures of that one from the build post.
Do you know the guy that owns that boat ?? It would really help me to take a look and some measurements, I am doing a v-drive like his and mine will be very similar.

Mark, I sent you a couple of pictures of the trailer showing the prop and ground clearance. I also noted the distance from wheels to the prop because this will be different on every boat but it should help a bit as I have never had a problem with a prop strike towing.

If you look at a lot of inboard boats, you'll find mostly ski boats, they usually have a piece of steel flatbar under the prop. On my trailer I welded a piece from the crossmember nfront of the shaft to the last crossmember, to protect the prop. Better to air on the side of caution, because if you hit the prop, it's likely to cause a lot of damage to the "drivetrain". However from street to height limit I think is 13'6", but someone else mentioned 14'6". I'd check the DMV for that one, because if you'reover nad you hit something, you're liable.

I have a 30 ft. blackman Outerbanks that was extended from 26 to 30 ft. The previous owner said he would have to insure that the props were in the proper position or they would hit. He finally added a bunk board and reversed the springs to above the axle. It now sits at about 14' 5" high. I accidently took out a cox tv cable wire a few years ago. While going down the street, my antenna was in the down and forward position and bounced up and grabbed the cable and pulled it down to my steering wheel on the fly bridge and ripped the cable out of the house and off the telephone pole. I never felt or heard anything. When I happened to look in my mirror I thought I lost my trailer light cord. When I looked on the other mirror there was more black cable. After I pulled over I realized what happened. . All overhead wires must have 15' clearance, minimum. Bridges are different.

I'd say as much as you can stand! You just have to back it in further when launching.

I gave my trailer height +4 inches if the drive ever falls while trailering. It's higher than others, but if they ever have a tilt pump fail or pop a hose while trailering, they won't have a drive left when they get to the ramp.

    Just for the record:

    Height and Low Clearances

Per the California Vehicle Code (CVC), no loads shall exceed a height of 14 feet. The CVC Height Section is 35250, and is copied below:

35250. No vehicle or load shall exceed a height of 14 feet measured from the surface upon which the vehicle stands, except that a double-deck bus may not exceed a height of 14 feet, 3 inches. Any vehicle or load which exceeds a height of 13 feet, 6 inches, shall only be operated on those highways where deemed to be safe by the owner of the vehicle or the entity operating the bus.

    LOW CLEARANCES on STATE ROUTES

The table below lists vertical clearances on State routes that are 14'-0" or less.

Measuring locations: Vertical clearances on this list are measured from the edge of travelled way. The vertical clearance measured from the edge of shoulder may be lower at some bridges. Some posted signs indicate vertical clearance measured from the edge of shoulder, and therefore may vary from the information on this list.

State routes only: This list is for vehicles travelling on State routes only; it does not include low clearances on local roads that run under State routes.

Locations on maps: To view Caltrans district truck route maps with low clearance locations, click on the name links.
