When they get all balled up its very brown for some reason. Brown/purple, almost like a swordfish.

Good point. Channel island chovie too.

Generally dines and chovie. Color change to camouflage and blend into the environment and background. Plus when frightened. When a dine is taken out of the slammer they are dark green often. After being in the deck tank or handwell they start to turn blond. To blend in with the sunlight. Faster a dine turns blond in my opinion the healthier the bait. But I do like a lime green sardine that has been in the sun that does not change to the color blond, rebel dine. If it's a lime green bait that didn't change color and its hot. I will fish it. Stands out

Natural sardine and chovie that has been pushed from the depths to the surface. Will change color once on the surface. Especially on a sunny day.

A emerald green chovie would stand out. Maybe good maybe not. And maybe deeper down the natural chovie does have a emerald green back. So then it would look natural :D

I need to read all of this

So when on a private boat and Jason scoops up a bait and kindly offers it to me. I politely turn it down and scoop up my own bait

    Quality control :D jk
