Water was a little ugly but sure beats staying at home. This was our first fishing trip in like 3 weeks. The last trip was just ugly water and we ended with no bites all day. At least today was a different story. We headed out from Koolina about 630am and ran into a open school of mahi by 9am. First pass throught the bird pile all we got was a mahi following the center and wouldnt bite. Second pass through the pile we got a double and landed both of them one about 15-18lbs and the other about 35-40lb bull. Third pass we got a single brought it all the way to the swim step just to have it spit the hook. After that we stayed with the pile a little longer with no luck so we decided it was time to move on. We headed straight out and found the puka head and ahi birds, stayed with them for a while with 6 other boats and no luck so we decided to try something else. Drove around a little more with no luck so we decided to hit up the barge. After trolling the barge for a little while we decided to break down and try to catch some aku. We got 1 bite and was able to land a small shibi. Decided to set up again and run the ledge on the way in, but that was all the action we got today.

Atleast i got to test a new theory that circle hooks do work trolling lol.

aww right fish in the box by 9am is always a good thing. Takes the pressure off early and everything else is just a bonus. Too bad the ahis didnt come up, but sounds like they were there... good going
