  1. Koi-Eating Heron Needs a New Home, by California Outdoors

What to do with a koi-eating Great Blue Heron? When on a boat, how to estimate distance from shore? Can you scout for abalone before 8 a.m.? When friends share in a hunt, does everyone need licenses and tags? Continue reading →[IMG]

No that's not the option. No need to put an awesome bird like that in the same category as a Sea lion. If someone owns 75 koi , they should do a better job of protecting them. My uncle recently went through a similar issue , and his solution was to build a deeper pond more suited for the fish. Limit the areas around / in the pond that a bird can land / wade etc.

Wife had the same problem only it was a white Egret! Planted a bunch of bird of paradise and a few orange trees and installed a ez up over the pond. Working great!

I'd just stock the pond with goldfish and sit back and enjoy watching the birds of prey doing their thing.

Worked with a "koi" guy....those Herons suck.....kept killing his fish....somehow the Heron found a better place to be....They are not stupid...if they find the food they won't leave.
