I've never truly learned how to tie knot, there I said it. I'm going out on a LR trip this August, now I know the san Diego jam knot is the go to knot. I know I have to learn it and learn it quick. any helpful hints on how to tie this knot would be helpful.
also what about crimping instead of knots.

No short cuts. Take your time. Make sure your wraps stack up evenly when you tighten down and lubricate well. After all no bust off is worse than one due to a bad knot.

Practice your knots while watching tv in the evenings. Buy some cheap mono and go to town..!!! No substitute for practice. You will learn really fast what looks good and what looks like crap. I use the uni as I find it is the easiest for ME to tie well. nothing worse than a bad knot.
