i bought some knockoff coltsnipers, very much like the ebay ones. going to go on an overnight later , i know you need to change the hooks out, but would it be ok for yellow tails? we're not targeting tuna. the treble hooks are definitely smaller than the shimano ones. i have both real and knockoff coltsnipers. haven't had time to go to the local tackle store to buy new trebles to replace them. will it be ok for yellow tails and whatever we catch?

Depends on the knockoff. Some of them I can bend the hook with my hands.

I have actual Colt Snipers and knockoffs for funsies. I switched out the hooks on all of them for the Owners.

    No bent hooks so far.

A Mako sure liked the 150gm knockoff I got at Turners! Now I need another one. I’ll use Owner split rings and Stinger trebles on the next one too.

I’d use the knockoffs for Bonito, Bass, Barricuda and rockfish. Maybe change some out with single hooks for when it’s wide open. Then save the actual snipers for Tuna and yellows.

You're paying for the jig, not the hooks. Switch them to inline singles or a 3x treble, size matched to grams. Only hooks I haven't changed are my newest Zakana's, pretty strong out of the box. If you've never pulled on a 20-25+ lb. YT, you'll learn quick...🐟

    Just a NuCanoe Frontier now.
I would rather have a single coltsniper, with owner hyper wire split rings and a st-66 treble hook, then a dozen knock-offs with shit hooks and rings.

Anyone know if I should switch out the split rings of my Diawa Zakana 80gm. Switching the hooks but I don’t have split rings, Do I need to switch them?

No need to, pretty strong for most school sized species. IF you bought the Zakana's pre-Covid before most anglers got wind of them, I'd change only the hooks. Newer ones use better hardware now...
