    No Wa.....

    No Wa Hoo.....

No Wa Hoo for you (me)!! :D

Went searching for Hooville and came up empty today. Here is a quick lowdown.

Went against all my own rules today and did something I have never done, but then again how often does this place have Wahoo action nearly everyday right now?

I went out strictly with the intent of fishing only for Wahoo, and more so, high speed trolling for Hoo. Normally I fill all my rocket launchers with 12rods, but I told myself last night that I would only be bringing 3 trolling rods period!! Yep, no bait sticks, no jig sticks, and just 3 trollers, as that way I will stick to my plan and troll, troll, troll.

I got a little later start than I wanted, as I wanted to be in the zone before it started getting light, but I was a Zombie this morning and that super early start didn't quite happen.

I was on the water by 5:15am, and at about that time, both bait barges (MB & SD Bay) had just run out of bait....... not to worry for me though, as this was the first time I can remember to where I was bypassing the barge and heading straight out.

I worked the upper 9 and North West of there 9.5 miles. In the morning, the water temp on the 9 was showing 74ish for me, and by about 8am it was then at 76.6 to a solid 77 for the rest of the day! At about 7 miles NW of the upper 9 I hit a slight current break/slick that was holding tons (and I mean fricken tons of paddies). Some big, some small, strands, pieces........ in fact there were so many for so far (miles) it became a pain in the ass, and I had to reel up, cruise a few miles back to cleaner water that I could try to work.

The good news, there were quite a few solid legit reports of wahoo caught today. One was near the 390 on a purple Marauder at 8:15 am. There was another Wahoo reported taken in the morning at the 425, and at 10:50am a Wahoo was reportedly taken on the 14 mile bank on a purple n Orange Marauder. I also heard of one taken on a iron while a guy was fishing a paddie. I heard of numerous lost and a few visuals as well...... all scattered up and down the coast.

Lots of dorado and some guys scoring well on small tuna as well, with Mexican waters (the 390) seeming pretty darn good!

I also heard of 2 hook ups on Blue Marlin. I think one guy was out near San Clemente, and he said the big fish (400+) had bit a mean joe green jig that they were trolling for wahoo.

The upper 9 looked very very fishy today, and I saw tons of life there, but never saw nor heard of anyone scoring there today until I came home and read of the guys scoring a nice Hoo there today!

This was pretty much my day!

Trying to get to the zone before dawn!

    Almost there....
    Mikes pics 032.jpg

A little later than I would have liked (I lagged), but Jigs are finally in. And yeah, incase you noticed, I have misplaced my safety straps! :( Mikes pics 035.jpg

I couldn't take it no more..... it started looking too good for marlin, so out went the third rod with a Marlin/Hoo jig.

Just in case I get a visit with a Sea Monster!
See that Mat Deb......that thing is sooooooo cushy!!!! :)

I keep looking at that word "Tried" and in my head I keep reading it as Tired!

We hooked a 5 ft long wahoo on a paddy on Thru (yesterday) had it on and chasing it when the hook pulled, no wire, so it must have been lipped hooked......
Really fun to see it come out from under a paddy and eat my buddies bait!!! We were out at the 209 and sunrise trolling for Wahoo, nothing so we started fishing paddies..
I will be back out next week looking for the long table fair!

you may want to rethink using the handle of the reel as an emergency "rod overboard" connection.
Nice water. Maybe take the girls water-skiing?
