Our 2nd win in the Gov,s Cup since 2009. Our plan was simple....just go fish and dont listen to the radio. My crew was Capt.Oscar Catian (my son) and Chris(bombero) Peirce. Bait in bay was slow so we headed through heavy fog to the island to make bait there. After finding good macks at Hasslers cove we headed 270 for 30 miles. Our first stop was a paddy with yellows,Chris got smoked by a big one and i landed one other and from then on the paddies were empty so we turned downswell for an hour and then started getting into lots of Do-dos. We got a triple on the troll while heading through some purple 70+ water...one fell off and we landed two yellowfin but they looked like schoolies so we kept goin to find another school hopfully with bigger fish. After more paddys wt do-do we were limited out so we just put the jigs out and trolled. We found another school of porpoise inside and to the south and as the reels started screaming Chris managed to fire a jig on the slide and got one on the slide as well so we had a triple going and they were bigger fish as we were all getting worked.
It was 3:30pm and weig-in was at 5:00pm so picked em up and ran.
Ther were alot of tuna caught way inside of where we were but it was all 13-17 lbs fish so i wasnt worried, we heard a couple calls on the radio with people claiming 25 lbs yellows (but that means theyre 18 lbs) so we werent worried plus we had such a killer day we were just stoked to see San Quintin at its best! We won like $23,000 pesos plus prizes which we just went and picked out at FISHCO (Julio Mezas store)
Thanks to all involved We had a blast! Gracias a todos de K&M
