this will be a lot better faster if you do!
That is not entirely true. The truth being the sooner we as a society can achieve a herd effect the sooner the virus will die off because it cannot find a host. Staying at home is just a way of curving the number of people that get the virus each day. The virus is not going to just die because we are setting at home. Once society returns to its normal, there is nothing stopping the virus from becoming a pandemic all over agian.

Isolating is a way of flattening the curve and buying time till a vaccine is developed. Humans unlike wild animals have vaccines to eradicate contagious diseases.

There is some truth to this but with the hospitalization and death rate, this is downright stupid. This brief time of isolation will provide needed time to treatments, they equipment and potential antivirus solutions to push the hospitalization and death rate way down. Join the team of real solutions and limit interaction with others. Don't take your buddy fishing, take the family you're camping out at home with you as your all one soup bowl anyway. If that means you fish solo, get a buddy boat to join you for safety.

But what does flatten the curve actually achieve when a vaccine is 18 month off at best. Are we going to practice distancing for 18 months? No fishing, no sporting events, ETC. Short Term these practices are a good idea. But how do we deal with this for 18 months or 24 months? The numbers in China are growing once again and we do not even know if they are providing true information.

Flattening the curve is done to not overload healthcare capacity so less people die. It's a rate balancing exercise. The vaccine timeline is independent of this.

Why do you see this as downright stupid? There is nothing stopping the virus from staying around until we have a cure. Two ways of achieving a cure, vaccine or herd effect. Vaccine is 18 months out as best. This brief time is not going to stop the virus because it will still be around at the end of April or when they choose to lift the orders to stay at home.
I am all for saving lives and that is the bottom line. But lets put this into perspective. Social distancing could go on for another 18 to 24 months. It is sad that we as a country have seen this coming for over 2 months and we are short on supplies even with the measures congress has taken to insure we do not fall short on supplies. Dyson makes 15,000 ventilators in days and we cannot make PPE's to save lifes.

Great, do not overload the healthcare system capacity, less people die. Your correlation to not overloading the healthcare system and death has no proven validity. We are in uncharted waters we have no idea what the long term gain or lose will be from social distancing.

But you're right, I have no proof that overloading the healthcare system will lead to more deaths. Let's go fishing.

You have an entire country to look at for facts. Italy. They pulled elderly people who may have survived off ventilators to give them to younger people with higher survival chance. Pulling someone off a ventilator is a good way for someone to die who could have lived
