    Hey guys,

I just purchased a new Talica 25ii, spooled up with 130lbs Izor...

Looking at my options for an appropriate rod set up!

    Looking at fishing 80-100lbs leaders...

Will be using this to chase the big ones on my buddies boat and the occasional overnight/longrange...

    Opine?

Phenix Black Diamond Hybrid 700X3H? 60-130?

    Axis 72X3H?

I'm curious as to why you went with a Talica as opposed to a Mak or VISX.

The Axis has a better bend (more forgiving) for fishing a smaller boat with more pitch and roll if you are doing that part time. I’d stick with that.

Shimano has always treated me well and I feel that they have a superior product! I have owned a ton of other brands/reels and I always seem to sell them off and replace them with Shimanos..

    Great reel!!!
How about pairing with UC Centaur, or a Seeker OSP 2x4, or Axis 720 3x.
Personally, I think it would look bad ass with the all black "murdered" OSP.

Probably don’t want a rail rod since you are fishing off a private boat. Something like a 6463xxh or xxxh might be a little easier on your back than a long stiff rail rod.

I looked at a few cal stars today at Save-On. Never fished them so thats probably why I shyed away from them.

I’m leaning towards an OSP or SS!

Any opinions on Phenix BD Hybrid Rail Rods?

    I have my Tac 16ii on a 700x2h...

A ton of people say they failed on the big bft from last year... I haven’t had an issue yet but I haven’t hooked up to a 200lbs cow yet either haha...

    Any opinions on Cousins??

    Seeker 2x4 ...

    Why 130lb...
80 or 100 should go on that reel..

Phenix is great under 80lb class fishing

I feel like the Phenix hybrid bottomed out a lot lighter than i thought it should..

I fish the Talica 20ii on the Axis 720X2H, on a skiff. Maybe the X3H will work for you, maybe the X2H is enough. PB I'm using my knee up no the gunwale or down on my knee using a very low gunwale as the rail, a stiffer rod is tough to use unless you're in a harness. At a certain point, you're hanging onto that kind of gear on a skiff, because your body is what creates most of the leverage. PB is much different than sportboat, where you can go super stiff.
