I finally booked my first LR trip! A 7 day aboard the Royal Polaris in August of 2017. I'm on the waiting for the NorCal Tuna Club charter 8 day before that so if space opens up I'll be switching. Anyway, it's time to slowly get ready over the next year. As stated in previous threads, I don't want to buy all the rigs I'll need, but I definitely want to get a one or two versatile setups in the 30#-60# range and I'll rent the rest. Anyways, just wanted to thank everyone who helped in previous threads.

Welcome to long range fishing. It's going to be a long year waiting for your trip, but in the end it will be the most fun you can have with your cloths on.

Yeah it's a long way out, but had no choice really. I'm getting married in 37 days, then honeymoon, then my sister's getting married, then another fishing trip in Canada yaddi yadda. I also didn't wanna go on a trip too early in the summer after what some other users have suggested.

Though I might try squeezing in a 3 day trip or something before that to get a taste. We'll see.

You will be way glad Ya struck! I started thinking about a first trip 2 months ago, leaving on a 8day the 17th of next month. The wife and I are booked on the Excel for 10 days about that time next year. I fooled around and got too old to hunt Africa but I'm gunna make up for it!

With a year to think about it, somehow I suspect you're going to have a lot more gear before you go in August. LOL

Congratulations on your new obsession! Think about how stoked you are right now. Now push that forward 10 months. You are going to be a sleepless mess come next July. Welcome to the club. By the way ....great job on booking that trip before your pending nuptials? It helps set the tone for the rest of your life....

Your profile says your boat is the New Huck Finn....Jay is the best....nobody better in the Bay Area! I go 4 or 5 times a year to hold me over between LR trips. Love shooting the shit with Jay and Dave! Let's plan a trip and I'll tell you all about LR! Ha ha! I'm actually going on the Dan Hernadez trip on the Huck Finn in September....not sure if it's booked or not?

Have fun! the planning part is just as much fun as the actual trip!

Jay for sure runs a great operation out here. I'm going this Sunday, hoping for limits... again. I try to make it at least twice a month. Didn't know Dan Hernandez had a trip going, do you know the dates? My brother in law and I always joke about Dan Hernandez, "let's get back on the water for some exciting action!" in the least exciting tone ever.

Hey Nic! Congrats on the wedding and booking your first LR!

Michael, you need to do Ascension Island and then Faial (Azores) since you've already checked clipperton off of the bucket list.

How often does the LR fleet run Clipperton trips? I definitely want to do it some day.

Nic - nice! You're definitely going to have a blast and once you get back to the landing, you're going want to immediately sign up again for the following year. Then eventually 7 days will be too short, then you'll start looking at 10 days......trust me, it only gets worse..... Welcome and hopefully we'll have a spot for you on our 2017 trip. Congrats on getting married next month!
