Just a quick update for you all. I’m stable at 13GFR. Kidneys are ready to be taken out but when that happens I’m going on dialysis and we are trying to stay off it for as long as I can.
My AV Fistula surgery went well and in 2 weeks my vein will be ready to start on dialysis. I don’t want to start on it and the surgeons also told me to hang out as long as I can off of it.
I tire easily. Have been trying to recover from 18 weeks in bed and gain muscle and strength back. I’m not allowed to lift anything more than 10lbs with my left arm where the surgery is nor do anything with jarring motions IE go on a boat, RollerCoaster, ride, etc. The surgeons want me to lay low as to not accidentally pop another cyst on my kidneys. They don’t want me to go back to the ER or else I will end up prematurely getting my kidneys removed with no new kidney to go back in, then living on dialysis...
So the plan is... find a living donor kidney. Remove both kidneys, 2 month recovery with 1-2 weeks stay in the hospital and dialysis.
Transplant then 6 month recovery.
No word on any kidney matches yet. Thanks to all those that gave it a shot for me!
I have been at work daily, was able to work our fishing tournament and have been able to go on limited walks with the kids.
No pain pills in over a month but got a bad side effect of kidney failure in the form of restless leg syndrome which is causing insomnia.
FYI I’ve been asked a lot and been learning as we go.
I am blood type O+
To be a potential donor they are screening people out that:
Have had or participate in homosexual intercourse.
Test positive for THC, or have or have had a drug history.
People that have family history of heart attack, cancer, disease.
Obeasity over 31 BMI.
They want the donor to be the healthiest person they can find.
