This was my first time on the islander and definitely not my last. Great old boat with a awesome crew and captain, staterooms were clean and the ac was blowing cold. I was stoked my dad and I got a room to ourselves witch was nice for storage
Friday 8/28 we started out with half the fleet in between Cat and sci. We got 9 yft on the grey bite and then went looking for our own fish to no avail. We heard the bft were biting on the west side of sci but we never got there due to a school of the nice grade of yft. I went one for two on that stop. no doubt there is a ton of fish in that area they just dont want to play. I think we ended up with thirty something yft for day one.
Saturday 8/29 we drove all night to end up 60 miles south of the border. Dry patty after dry patty I was getting a little nervous thinking we made a huge mistake by going south and then one jig strike on a trash can lid size patty it wa as on. Yeah they were small but with 20lb set up makes it a little bit of a challenge. Went for round two and they chewed the paint right off the stern for over an hour. I killed it on my new popper set up(revo toro cousins 756t), I was getting it out past the tuna and the dodo's were crushing it. We ended up with limits of yft(350) and 51 dodo's and a handful of yt. All in all it was a geat trip with my old man since he got me started when I was just a kid im stoked to get out on the water with him and chase tuna around like old times
Oh yeah to the asshole that won the jackpot and only tipped 13 dollars to the crew the fishing gods will get you.

I really believe that the Islander is the class of the Pt. Loma fleet for this 1-3 day type of trip. Glad you had a good one.

Almost forgot to mention the wahoo we saw 30 miles south of the border. Two wahoo were just cruising under the bow while I fished a popper they were a least 4 ft long. Get the wire out there here :D

Someone won the JP and tipped $13? Cheap ass person, hopefully karma will get even or ahead of him. Last two trips I've watched some really cheap butt heads tip the crew maybe $5 to $10 for an over night trip. Some have paid their food/drink bill and walked away. One trip we limited on bft and the other one was slow, we still caught fish and the crew worked all day. Just a personal rant, DON'T BE SO F**king CHEAP!

I was on the trip coming back before your trip and Paul won the jp with the Opah and he gave the crew the whole thing $360 and we all tip the crew nicely because they are the best.

That is generous! Good on ya! For those that can't stomach the idea of just giving it all away-- a great compromise when winning a sizable JP is to reward yourself and have your cleaning and galley tab paid with JP. Then give the remainder away to the crew and maybe throw in a tip on top if the service was especially good. You feel good, the crew feels good, everybody wins! But, don't go buying the whole boat a round of beers, or this tactic won't make the crew happy :D

Great report....Shitty tip by that guy , I agree. If he won he could've given substantially more but I personally dont feel anybody should feel compelled to turnover the full pot to the crew.
When I win I will always give half of the pot to the crew on top of my 20% customary tip.
