I would like to know which boats are currently licensed to fish Guadalupe? I know there are some applications pending with the Mexican government but does anyone have a current list?

lets just roll up to the island and roll out. If the Mexican government detains use we will just tell them that we are Political Refugees seeking asylum! Hell it works for them!!!!!! LOL

A related question, is the island fished out? When is that last time that someone boated a yellowtail over 40 lbs there?

Of course it is not fished out. That island just produces when it wants to. Is Coronado fished out??? No it just produces when the fish show up too. So go get them

Good point about Coronado. It has just seemed like the Lupe was not what it was when they first opened it back up but to your point every year is different.

youre high last few years have been better than it ever was. Lupe was forever where you go to get 40-60lb yellowfin and the YT was the filler on the down days. Now the regular is fish over 100lb, and yt trust me are still there.

Also the Indy, RS, AA, PS, Vagabond, Searcher. I know the Intrepid has yet to secure a permit over the past few years. Maybe they'll have one this year?

Here's a shot from last August. It was a parking lot out there, but we anchored up near the Indy and put the wood to em quickly. We did a "hit and run" with 250+ YFT (40-72lbs) in the boat in 1.5 days and took off in search of other species. RP Style! ;) P8020194.JPG

I got a 53# pound yellowtail 3 years ago there, was feeling pretty good until I saw a 86# at fishermans processing at the end of my trip! There are 100# yellowtail there! There are places around the Island that are loaded with big yellowtail, just the landing aspect of angling is almost impossible. Guadalupe is where yellowtail die of old age!

I have fished Guadalupe since 1970. My first trip was on the Chubasco by Lee Palm’s Sportfishing. Since that trip I have been there 17 times. I was on the Islander at the island when everyone was told to leave because it was closed. Since it reopen I have been fortunate to make 5 more trips. Based on my personal experience the fishing is the best I have ever experienced. On these 5 trips we have had trips with full limits of YFT with the big fish at 160#. The YT fishing has at times been wide open during the day and a few times the legendary night bites on very heavy line. Biggest YT on these trips was over 60# and others over 50#s. I wish the big tuna and big YT were mine.

I was fortunate to be on the Shogun right after Thanksgiving the first year it was reopen. That was the trip that Inside Sportfishing filmed..........the fishing was spectacular. And every trip since has been good with a few again being spectacular.

Unless there is a change this year, Guadalupe is better than ever. I will again try to find out on the Shogun 10 dayer in October and an Apollo 5 1/2 dayer after Thanksgiving.

Here's a youtube video from our 10 day trip last December 2018. Fast forward to the 1:45 mark and all of those tuna are from Guadalupe. Cookie cutter 60-90lbrs at first then fish from 120-175lbs moved in a took over the show. We were having a lot of fun catching these fish on 60lb....all out slug fest.

Summer trip we used short 30-50lb topshots. Most of the fish came on 30, 35 and 40lb.

Fall trip we used short 50-80lb topshots. Most of the fish were caught on 60lb.

It's actually quite relaxed fishing where you feel confident to have many shots at fish throughout the day so folks are less stressed out if they break off or get taxed
