well you said it all, it was your first time,
When you signed on, what time were you "told" that the boat would return to the DOCK? I was always "told" by 6AM for normal 1 1/2, 2 1/2, and 3 1/2 day trips.
Why were you back so early? If you were fishing locally, why not stay out fishing that extra 6 hours?! What is the reasoning? and this is normal? 2.5 days aren't cheap, I would feel cheated, ESPECIALLY if the numbers sucked.
really? tied to the bait dock for 6 hours is "normal" ....really? WTF is that?
The fish are all within 4 hours of the harbor right now and it is much smoother sleeping in the harbor than the open ocean. They could have tried to get a night bite going, but most local crews do not seem to do that.
remember when "normal" was an 8+ hour run for 2-3 hours of fishing?
and then leave the fishing area at noon for an 8+ hour ride uphill back to the dock?
and then drive home through the night?
So they added that extra "1/2" day so we could fish from noon until dark, get some sleep, then drive home the next morning. Some folk will NEVER be happy.
What boat was it?
I'm going on a 2.5 next month, i hope they don't pull any shenanigans like this. This is doubly crap because the fishing was tough it seems. A couple hours maybe, okay, i can understand that. 6? That's a decent percentage of time. Sorry you got jobbed OP.
Can you send me a PM on what boat it was?
You are reading the OP's post wrong (which is what he intended).
Say you are fishing 30 miles from port. The sun sets, you all have dinner and your boat isn't due to port until next morning at 6am. Its 10pm, the boat starts heading back to port and when it arrives at 1am, the dock is closed. Would you prefer they stayed out to sea, bouncing around adrift and potentially in harms way, or would you prefer they come in, tie up and everyone, including you, gets a good nights sleep?
What the OP said is they stayed out to "make his trip a 2.5 day", not that he booked a 2.5 day.
Also if his trip was a 2 day, he would have been back to the dock at 8-9pm (when the dock is open), not midnight or later (when the dock is closed).
So the whole premise of "making it a 2.5 day trip" is BS.
Gosh if you would have just explained you were from washi and going to bring down 25 googans next year I'm sure they would have accommodated you
Ahhh, THAT makes a little more sense. If the captain said, we are due back at 9pm but we will/can fish until that time instead but you have to sleep on the boat for 6 hours, I would be stoked! .
Ain't that the truth.
although 6 hours sounds long, lets say normal return time is 7am, then that means they got back to the harbor around midnight to 1am.
if the fishing grounds are 4 hours away, that means they left the tuna grounds around 8 to 9pm.
That also means the captain stayed out in the area until the sunset.
I first thought "wtf captain sucks" but working the hours backwards, it makes sense.
Landing and captains have agreements and im sure the landing says no unloading people between X hours.
This is due to liability etc for the landing. Landing is responsible for the people getting on and off safely. If lights are off ( someone trips and falls), gate locked, etc etc, its a liability.
Totally NORMAL. Your probably Mexican Permits were only good for 2 days
of actual fishing, even though you left the night before the 2 days, and got in
before your allowed to dock after 5am when landing opens, fish packers
arrive, and not waking up live aboards and TSA restrictions. NORMAL>
Oceanside 95 advertises they let you off when they get back at midnight or any time. Maybe your group of 25 should charter it?
Some of the best paint ball dog hunting takes place in that bait dock.....
Up north, they take it to a new level "sometimes" with crossbows.....
The main reason is the areas surrounding the landing as you enter the harbor have sleep aboard yachts and you are not allowed to disturb them until 5am! Short runs almost always result in 5am returns and time either docked or anchored outside the residential area such as the bait dock.
Moral of the story, when chasing BFT so close to shore you are overpaying by hopping on a 2.5day, go for a 2day and get the same time of fishing in.
Right on the MONEY!!
