Anyone fill their 16VISX with 80# or 100# Seaguar Threadlock? Interested to see how much line you were able to put on reel with short topshot.

I have 600 yds of 100# Threadlock on my Mak 16. The VISX is about the same size.

I’m bringing this one back. For those who don’t know I fished my 16VISX for the first time last November and caught a 360.4 pound Yellowfin. At the time it was loaded with 660 yards of Izorline solid. I lost 100 yards to a neighboring boats anchor line (and another trophy). Well, I refilled the same reel yesterday. Using #20+ of tension I ended up with well over 700 yards this time around along with a severely downsized and melted izor spool. These results are repeatable and I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to get your big fish gear handled and loaded properly. Best of luck to you all out there.

It did not have any issue and this reel can really turn a bait loose. I wear flex wrap and put it back on as tight as is comfortable or run it out behind the boat in between stops if it needs it. I only use 12’ of flouro personally.

I imagine the OP already got his answer, but I’ll throw in some more info since it may help others.
My local shop got 550yd of 100lb threadlock on my 16visx.
I feel like it could take more line under better conditions.

Yeah I filled mine with a 600 yard spool and I had about 50+ yards left over. I don’t fill to the brim even though I only use short topshots, and I filled it by hand. I’m sure the pros at the tackle shops could do better.

I am sure the op got his answer long ago, I just felt the need to update the post for search purposes which I use quite commonly. FYI mine is filled to the last etched ring on the spool. Tight lines gentlemen.

Just had my 16VISX spooled with 100lb. Threadlock, they got 545 yards on it. The spool feels solid and well packed up to the last limit line.

Yah for sure. Wasn’t necessarily responding to your post. Just wanted to add some more info to the thread. Much like you, I spend quite a bit of time using the search function (but don’t always find exactly what I’m looking for). So I try and add as much info as I can in hopes that it helps others. Congrats on that beast of a yft.

did you add more 100lb izor solid or did you go to hollow? flip the line so the knot is at the bottom?

I added more Izor solid until it was over-filled, flipped the line, and then repacked on the reel at high tension, and stopped when I was happy with the amount I had. Over filling made sure I didn’t come up short after the process was complete.
