My favorite thing about the "sinker rig" is less scope than a comparably weighted jig. I'm on the boat in three weeks. This is getting the blood pumping while I sit here at work tonight.

Heck yeah that's the overnight report I was hoping for!UPDATE! News flash! Another night time bite going on here aboard the independence. The bluefin maybe won’t play in the daytime but at night is a hole difference story. We have had good success on 3 different stops tonight. Jigs dropping down anywhere from 150- 250 and bang you’re going to get bit on that drop or reeling your jig back up. Remember when bluefin fishing get your jigs to go straight up and down. Big success is going to the bow and dropping and walking back to the stern so your lines not scoping out.

thanks Soda ,the Sinker rig report sound good to me .The simple home made sinker rigs are getting bit really good tonight. 10 and 12 ounce with a double hook setup. Also the knife jigs are in on the action

Hey Soda, who makes that pink, gold and blue jig in the top picture? I've never seen that jig before. Looks sweet!!On this trip it doesn’t matter. They’re eating any kinda jigs. Here’s the staple ones to bring 250-500 grams. Not much water movement so the 250 is working but also caught them on 500. Right now the bites only at night but that can change as our trip goes on

I'm not sure if you want them 1/2 the distance (closer to S.D) Then your going to have anything that floats out there. These OTW reports really get us juiced for our upcoming trips. I have a 2 day on the AA May 10th and hopefully they will be less than half the distance. We really appreciate your reports please keep them coming and Good Luck!
Thats' the luxury of being on a 4 day trip. Bluefin don't bite every day but since its a 4 day the boat can travel further and look around and you guys got in to some good bites the first couple days. Catching fish on day one always relaxes me. Thanks for the report! That Vampire style fishing wears me out but I don't want to be "that guy" when everyone is talking about the mad bite the night before only I was asleep. So last night was a bust. The bluefin moved to parts unknown. Another boat fished the area all day yesterday and spotted very few schools. Not to worry for the next group of anglers because what we saw out here were massive amounts of fish. It’s just a matter of time before they get found again. I myself got a much needed shut eye last night. We’re still fishing today and breaking our gear down later in the afternoon. If something comes up I will report it. We’re going to another area right now.
Good luck out there fellas!!!!! Can’t wait til the next update! Hope the BFT wanna play more as we head towards my May trip….UPDATE! got word from the spotter airplane they located some big schools so will be in the area around 10PM tonight. Captain reminded everyone to use your 100 pound setup or 130 with a jig and to check your drags have dinner and get in a quick couple hour nap. Will keep you updated as we get into the area holding bluefin. Stay tuned. From the independence over and out.
